Marriage Registration In Gujarat- An Overview

Marriage registration in Gujarat follows the guidelines set out by the Gujarat Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, 2006. To register a marriage, couples need to submit an application at least 30 days prior to marriage. Once the application is processed and verified, a marriage certificate is issued.

The marriage certificate, issued by the Inspector General of Registration, Government of Gujarat, serves as an essential document for obtaining a passport, visas, and PAN card. Healthcare Benefits

Once married, both partners may be entitled to enhanced healthcare benefits. Many employers extend health insurance policies to cover spouses. It ensures comprehensive medical coverage and eases financial burdens related to healthcare expenses.

The following documents are to be submitted by the applicant at the time of furnishing the application form. The Complete documents must be attested by the Gazetted Officer or by Notary public.

• Birth Certificate
• Proof of address like a voter ID card or ration card
• School leaving certificate
• Marriage invitation card
• Two passport size photograph
• Nationality Certificate.

In case of NRI, the following documents to be submitted by the bride and groom.

• Copy of passport
• Address proof
• Employers ID proof
• Residence proof of two NRI witnesses
• Residence proof of two local witnesses.

• Log in using an existing account or create a new account
• Click on the ‘marriage application’ and then ‘marriage registration’
• Make a note of the mandatory documents and select the district details
• Fill in the required Marriage, bride and bridegroom details in the application form
• If you are an NRI fill in the NRI Details
• Now under the other details section fill in the couples parents details, priest and witness details
• Upload all the required document in the appropriate format
• Click on the Submit icon after completing the form
• Note down the ARN to track the status aptly.

Note: Once your application is verified, the marriage certificate will be issued within seven working days from the date of submission.

Dr. Savitaben Ambedkar Inter-Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme

Implemented by the Gujarat Government’s Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, this scheme promotes social equality by encouraging inter-caste marriages between Scheduled Castes (SC) and other Hindu communities. Eligible couples receive ₹2,50,000 in financial assistance, including ₹1,00,000 for household expenses and ₹1,50,000 as National Savings Certificates in their joint name. The scheme, jointly funded by the state and central governments, has no income limit.

Kunwarbai's Mameru Scheme:

The scheme is available to girls from Scheduled Castes, Socially and Educationally Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Families. Launched in 1991, this scheme by the Gujarat Government provides financial assistance for the marriage of Scheduled Caste (SC) girls.

Benefits

• ₹12,000 for marriages after 01/04/2021
• ₹10,000 for marriages before 01/04/2021

Beneficiaries of group marriages under the Sat Fera Samuh Lagna Yojana can avail of benefits from both schemes if all conditions are met.
