A person who has been permitted by the taxpayer to act on his behalf on the GST portal is known as an authorised signatory. They can sign all the documents for GST purposes. In most cases for sole proprietors individuals themselves act as authorised signatory. However in case of other entities it is crucial to appoint an authorised GST signatory. Checklist to Choose the GST Authorised Signatory

The following checklist has to be followed while selecting an authorised signatory.

  • A primary authorised signatory must be chosen before submitting a new GST registration application
  • A minor is not permitted to be an authorised signatory
  • PAN is required for authorised signatories
  • During the GST registration process, the authorised signatory's email address and mobile phone number must be provided
  • A company must have board approval to appoint an authorised signatory
  • A maximum of 10 authorised signatories may be added
  • If there are multiple authorised signatories, one must be designated as the primary authorised signatory
  • Only one primary authorised signatory may be added.
  • GST- Authorised Signatory Eligibility

    The following people have the authority to sign documents on the GST portal.

    In case of sole proprietorship

    The person acts on their behalf who has been duly authorised by the person, or, if the person is not in India, any other person acting on their behalf will be the authorised signatory.

    Hindu Undivided Family's situation (HUF)

    Karta or, if Karta is unable to handle the situation due to mental incapacity or absence from India, any other adult member of the family or another person Karta is authorised

    In case of a Company

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Managing Director(MD), Director, or any other authorised signatory is chosen by the Board of Directors.

    LLPs or Partnership Firms

    Any partner or additional party to whom partners have given permission.

    Authorised Signatory Format For Board Decision

    All the insights of the minutes in meeting of the board of directors for the company XXX held on DD/MM/YY at (time) in the registered office of the company

    Resolved that the board of directors hereby designates (XXX) of the company as authorised signatory for registration of the company on the Goods and Service Tax (GST) System Portal. The concerned person will have the authority to sign and submit various documents both digitally or physically. The concerned person has authority to make applications, communications, representations, modifications, or alterations on behalf of the company before the Central /or the concerned state GST authorities as and when required.
