It was initially based out of the BSI’s BS 5750 series of standards but later it was proposed to ISO in 1979. The BS 5750 replaced individual industry standards and assured quality and consistency to all users or consumers across all industries in the UK. Then evolved the ISO 9000:1987 which was internationally equivalent to BS 5750.
