A business entity offering application services such as telemedicine, tele-education, tele-trading, call centre, e-commerce, network operation, and other IT enabled services is called the Other Service Provider (OSP). The OSP registration is obtained from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Government of India.
Any company providing ‘Applications Services’ like telebanking, telemedicine, telemedicine, tele-education, tele-trading, e-commerce, call center, network operation center and other IT enabled services, by using telecom resources provided by Authorised Telecom Service Providers shall obtain an OSP license.
The entities entitled to OSP registration must be a company registered under the Companies Act, 2013.
There are 2 types of OSPs in India
Domestic OSP- An OSP that provides application services inside the national boundaries is termed as a domestic OSP.
International OSP- An OSP that provides application services beyond the national boundaries is termed as an international OSP.
The Registration of OSPs is done by the respective Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cells (formerly known as VTM Cells) under the Department of Telecom (DoT), having jurisdiction in the location of the OSP/Telemarketing Centre.

Apply for the OSP license India online
The company can apply online for the OSP license by filling up the Form A available at the Saralsanchar website. It can take help from an OSP license consultant also, to ensure smooth application and registration.
To maintain the OSP registration compliance, an OSP must submit an “Annual Return” to the DoT within 6 months after completion of a given financial year. The Return should mention the present status and the activities of the OSP.

15-Mar-2020: In a bid to enable the employees in the Indian (IT/ITes) sector to work from home, the Department of Telecommunications has announced modifications to its Other Service Providers (OSP) licensing norms. The requirement of the security deposit for availing work from home facilities by OSPs in IT/ITes firms has now been exempted in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
