Eligibility Criteria for FSSAI Central License
- Dairy units, including milk chilling units rigged to process or handle even more than 50,000 liters of liquid milk daily.
- Vegetable oil processing units by the process of solvent extraction and refineries, including oil expeller units that are processing more than 2 MT (Metric Tonnes) per day.
- Cattle are slaughtering units that serve 50 + large animals or 150+ small animals or 1000+ poultry birds daily.
- Meat processing units that process 500 kg of meat daily or 150 MT annually.
- All food processing units, including the repackers, process more than 2 MT(Metric Tonnes) per day, except for grains, cereals, and pulses milling units.
- All the producers of proprietary food products.
- 100% of export adopted units
- All import food items, including additives and food ingredients for commercial purposes
- Storage units with a controlled atmosphere and cold environment with a capacity of more than 50,000 MTs.
- Cold or refrigerated storage with a capacity of more than 10,000 MTs.
- A controlled atmosphere, cold storage with more than 1,000 MTs.
Types of FSSAI Registration
There are mainly three food licenses or FSSAI License categories concerning each food-related business.
- Central license
- State license
- Basic registration.
The three licenses differ based on the scale of development of the food business.
- FSSAI Basic Registration - Small businesses require FSSAI basic registration with a turnover of less than ₹ 12 lakh in a year.
