The recently released Economic Survey 2020 points at the government’s aspiration of creating four crore well-paying jobs by the year 2025 and an overall eight crore jobs in the next ten years. Employment creates a domino effect in the economy by boosting consumption, powering saving in banks, thereby unleashing a positive effect on industrial development, which in turn helps people by generating better goods and more jobs. With this aim, the government of Maharashtra has created the Mahaswayam portal.

What is a Mahaswayam Portal?

The Maharashtra Government has launched a portal, ‘Mahaswayam’ to encourage self-employment and skill development in the state. Maha stands for Maharashtra and Swayam stands for self-service. 

The Mahaswayam portal stands to service, not just the job seekers but also aims to bring together students, young people, employers, trainers, entrepreneurs under one umbrella. By integrating these multiple stakeholders, efficiency and power of togetherness can be unlocked – as immediate vacancies, specific skill requirements, and training can be serviced simultaneously. 

Under the overall ambit of Mahaswayam scheme, there are three other limbs for skill development, youth, and self-employment. 

Skill Development through Maharashtra Skill Development Society 

To advance skills in India’s rich and vibrant young workforce, the government of Maharashtra has created a registered society – the Maharashtra Skill Development Society that works under the ambit of the Skill Development initiative of the government of Maharashtra. 

Employment and Entrepreneurship Program (EPP)

Instituted under the Commissionerate of Skill Development, the EPP program is a stipend based program for aligning skills with industry demands, by bringing together around 33 lakh job aspirants and employer database of more than 67000 public and private establishments.

The Annasaheb Patil Arthik Vikas Mahamandal 

Employment cannot be sustained without a rich ecosystem of entrepreneurs ready to absorb the skilled workforce. The Annasaheb Patil Arthik Vikas Mahamandal scheme supports the economically backward communities in terms of providing entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities, through a state fund. 

In addition to helping job seekers identify prospective employers, the website also offers a host of other benefits such as job fairs, career counseling, pre-competitive exam preparation, publishing of employment market information, etc. 

How to register at the Mahaswayam portal to find a job

Candidates can apply online through its official website and by registering themselves. They would need to create an ID and password by registering through their mobile numbers. 

List of documents required for registration

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Educational Qualification Certificates – such as Class X, Class XII, and graduation level mark sheets, if applicable. 
  • Acquired Skill Certificate – This could include details of any pieces of training done for the acquisition of skills, conferences attended, workshop participation, or any other certification showing the job seeker’s skill set.  
  • Experience Certificate – This is applicable for those who have job experience. An experience certificate from your previous employer would validate your claims of a set number of years, while also demonstrating your active practical skills. 
  • Email
  • Mobile number etc.

Other details that you may choose to upload on your discretion

  • CV, Resume, or Biodata 
  • Other relevant experiences – such as the acquisition of allied skills, certifications, language certificates, etc.

Who can apply for registration as a job seeker?

Any person above the age of 14 years can use this platform for seeking job details. There is no residence requirement, in this case, therefore, even people living outside of Maharashtra can apply on the Mahaswayam portal online to avail of the benefits of job opportunities in the state. Further, students and those undergoing education or additional training can also register on the platform. 

The registration on the platform remains valid for one year from the date of registration. however, it would renew automatically after one year after every successful login. 

One must note here, that mere registration or application is no guarantee for a job. The employers are free to conduct their internal assessment which may include written tests, interviews, background checks, etc. 

Is there a cost to the registration process?

No. The Mahaswayam portal is a free initiative of the government of Maharashtra and the registration process is free of cost.

How to find a job using the Job Seeker tab

One of the best advantages of a portal like the Mahaswayam is its ability to capture an individual job seeker’s data and display results that are commensurate to the skills and academic background of the job seeker. 

Step 1 

Log in to the Mahaswayam portal the Job Seeker tab. You will need either your Aadhar card number or your registration ID (generated once a profile is created). Additionally, enter your password. 

Step 2

After logging in, you can choose to filter the search results based on your specific skills. Further, educational level, sectors where you would like to work, or by district location. 

Step 3 

Many different filters such as those mentioned above can be applied singularly or together, separated by a comma. 

Step 4 

You will see a list of results matching your requirement. The results would include the name of the company, required work experience, location, and other relevant details. 

How to find a job at the Mahaswayam Portal using Vacancy Advertisements

After logging in, you can keep track of the new vacancy announcements. This can be done by logging onto the Mahaswayam portal. Further, on the head panel, there exists a tab for Vacancy Advertisements. You may also access it directly using the website link. Moreover, all open applications appear sequentially here. 

The utility of the Mahaswayam portal for Skill Development, even if you aren’t actively looking for jobs

The Mahaswayam portal is useful not just for those seeking jobs, but also students and young people who will eventually step into the recruitment process. Additionally, the website also has a dedicated segment for skill development, which can either be accessed by clicking the “Skill Development” tab on the homepage or by directly clicking on the link Here, you can register yourself as a beneficiary and avail a variety, of course, such as Accounting, Dentistry, Physiology, Beauty Consultancy, Electrical week, fashion designing, web designing, etc.

Moreover, the website also publishes details of courses. Further, with their requisite fee, in line with the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, a central level program for training.  Additionally, you will also offer placement after completion of a set number of hours of training through the Mahaswayam Skill Development platform.
