How To Claim EPF Online By Linking UAN With Aadhaar
For several employees, withdrawing one’s own money from the EPFO had been a tough task. The claim settlement process which earlier took several months, if not years, even required the employee to get the attestation done from the employer.

In order to provide money in the hands of employees, the government had allowed salaried individuals to withdraw a portion of their provident fund (PF) balance as PF advance. The money withdrawn as PF advance need not be paid back by the employee and it is not to be considered a loan. The EPFO has specific PF advance rules, form and the process to avail such an advance including that for COVID-19.

With the passage of time, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has undertaken several steps to make the claim settlement process related to the provident fund (PF) faster, smoother and more efficient.

In a bid to better turnaround time, the EPFO introduced a facility to link the Universal Account Number (UAN)  with the Aadhaar by using the government’s UMANG mobile app. The app works as a unified platform through which multiple government services pertaining to central, state and regional government policies can be easily accessed by the user. Here’s a look at how to link the UAN to your Aadhaar to make it easier to claim EPF.

While it is not mandatory to link the two, doing so can help make life simpler by significantly speeding up the claims settlement process. Having a UAN has been made compulsory for all employees, as it helps manage the EPF account, and also makes it easier to transfer money related to PF.

In most cases, the employer provides the UAN, and the employee has to activate it by submitting the required know-your-customer (KYC) documents to the employer. The UAM works as a permanent number that remains constant throughout your career and hence getting it verified is a one-time investment.

Here are three ways to link your UAN to the Aadhaar, if the UAN is active:

  1. Using UMANG App
  2. Using biometric services provided on the e-KYC Portal of EPFO
  3. Using the OTP Verification on e-KYC Portal of EPFO

Using UMANG App

  1. Input the UAN into the app
  2. An OTP will then be sent to the mobile number that has been registered to the UAN
  3. After you have verified the OTP, input your Aadhaar details
  4. Again an OTP will be sent to the mobile phone that has been registered to the Aadhaar along with an email regarding the same
  5. Once the OTP has been verified, your Aadhaar will be linked to the UAN.

Biometric function

For such linking, you require a registered biometric device.

  1. Visit the website
  2. Click on the tab marked ‘Link UAN Aadhaar’ under ‘For EPFO members’
  3. Input your UAN number
  4. An OTP will be sent to the mobile phone registered to your UAN
  5. After verification, input your Aadhaar details
  6. Opt for Biometrics when asked to choose Aadhaar verification method
  7. Biometric will be input through a registered biometric device.
  8. After verification, the Aadhaar will be linked with UAN.

Linking Aadhaar with PF Online

  1. Log in to the Unified Portal of Employees’ Provident Fund (
  2. Click on the ‘For employees’ tab and then select ‘UAN Member e-Sewa’
  3. Enter your UAN and password to log in to the portal.
  4. Click on ‘Manage’ and then on ‘KYC’
  5. Under ‘Add KYC’ tab, provide your bank account, PAN card and Aadhaar, passport, driving license and ration card details. After you have filled it in, click on ‘submit’.
  6. After submitting, you can find these details under ‘Pending KYC’ tab.
  7. Once approved by the employer, it will be a move to the ‘Approved KYC’ tab.

Linking Aadhaar with PF Offline

  1. Collect the form to link Aadhaar with UAN from an EPFO office or Common Services Centre (CSC).
  2. Fill in the details with copies of documents required.
  3. Attach self-attested copies of the UAN, PAN, and Aadhaar along with this form.
  4.  After verification, the Aadhaar will be linked to your EPF account.
  5. Once completed, the employee will be notified through a message on their registered mobile number.

Due to the implementation of such new rules, employees can now skip the attestation process which was earlier required to process claims allowing them to fill the “Composite Claims Form” right away.

Conditions for Filing Claim

  • The application must be filed online at
  • The employee must have a registered UAN
  • The employee must have updated Aadhaar and bank details approved on the portal.
  • The employer should have verified the e-KYC form submitted.

Benefits of CCF:

  • Does away with employer attestation reducing turnaround time significantly.
  • No documentary evidence has to be sent to the EPFO again helping in reducing processing time.

Claim Process

For claiming PF settlement:

  1. Login to the EPFO website’s member area at
  2. Go to the “KYC” section under the “Manage” option.
  3. Input Aadhaar and bank details and submit once done.
  4. An OTP is sent to the registered phone.
  5. Once verified, the application is accepted.

Note: The details regarding the Aadhaar and bank have to be approved by the employer, and the request for the claim may be placed two months after switching jobs.

Once linked, EPF claims may be processed in as early as five days, making it a lot easier to procure such claims. While this process took months earlier, the simple linking has led to several employees benefiting significantly, thanks to the reduced processing time.
