Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is better known as a retirement benefits scheme for all registered salaried employees. EPFO is governed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. For the convenience of salaried employees, EPFO has launched the UAN Member Login portal, which lets its member users access a wide range of services and manage their Provident Fund accounts without visiting the EPFO office. The EPFO e-Sewa has recently announced on its Twitter handle that the pension payment order (PPO) number and UAN are now available on the government’s e-locker service – DigiLocker.

Universal Account Number (UAN)

The EPFO has assigned a 12-digit UAN (universal account number) to every employee registered under it. It is a unique number that remains the same, even if the employee changes his/her job. You should also know that, if you have more than one PF account, you can Merge them into a Single PF account.

What is a UAN Member Portal?

The UAN Member E-Sewa portal offers a wide range of information related to your PF contributions and allows you to perform various actions, such as checking your PF balance, viewing details of past employers, and withdrawing PF amount conveniently through the E-Sewa Portal.

As per the law, any organization with more than 20 employees must undergo EPF UAN registration online. During the registration process, a unique user ID and password are set up to access the portal and its features securely.

To access your EPFs using your UAN, you can use the EPFO E-Sewa portal. The link to access the portal is https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.

UAN Member EPFO E-Sewa Portal Registration Process

Following these steps will activate your UAN, allowing you to access the EPFO E-Sewa Portal for managing your PF account and related activities.

  • Step 1: Obtain your UAN Number
  • You can find your UAN number from your employers or check it on your salary slips.
  • Step 2: Access the Activation Link
  • Click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link provided in the ‘Important Links’ section.
  • Step 3: Enter Your Details
  • Fill in the required details as prompted.
  • Step 4: Request Authorization PIN
  • Click on ‘Get Authorization PIN’ to request a PIN for activation.
  • Step 5: Receive and Enter PIN
  • A PIN will be sent to your registered mobile number, which is linked to the EPFO.
  • Enter the received PIN to proceed with the activation.
  • Step 6: Receive System-Generated Password
  • After entering the correct PIN, a system-generated password will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS.

Here are the general steps for UAN Member Login as of 2024:

  • Step 1: Obtain Your UAN Number
    • Find your Universal Account Number (UAN) from your employer or on your salary slips.
  • Step 2: Access the UAN Member Portal
    • Visit the official UAN Member Portal website https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface
  • Step 3: Click on ‘Activate UAN’
    • Look for the ‘Activate UAN’ link on the portal’s homepage.
  • Step 4: Enter Your UAN and Details
    • Click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link, and a new page will open.
    • Enter your UAN, mobile number, and other required details as prompted.
  • Step 5: Request Authorisation PIN
    • After filling in the details, click on ‘Get Authorization PIN.’
    • An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number.

UAN Member Login: Check your 12-Digit UAN Number

  • An employee can find his/her universal account number directly through his/her employer or salary slip
  • Alternatively, one can also obtain a UAN number through the UAN member portal using his/her member ID/PF number by furnishing the following details:
    1. Name
    2. Date of Birth
    3. Mobile Number
    4. Email ID
  • After entering all the details along with the captcha code, click on the tab “Get Authorization Pin”
  • You will receive an authorization PIN to your registered mobile number. Click on the “Validate OTP and get UAN” tab after entering the OTP.
  • By doing so, you will receive the UAN on your mobile number.

UAN Member Login Portal: Steps for UAN Activation

  • Step 1: Visit the URL
  • Step 2: Click the sub-category ‘Activate UAN’ which can be found in the bottom right column under the “Important Links” section.
  • Step 3: Enter the following details:
    1. UAN
    2. Name
    3. Date of birth
    4. Mobile number
    5. Email ID and captcha code

Note: Make sure you enter the correct details as per your official EPF records. Title with (*) is a mandatory field. 

  • Step 4: Once you have filled in the details and correctly entered the captcha code, click on “Get Authorisation Pin”. The PIN will be sent to your mobile number

  1. Step 1: Log in to the EPF employer portal using the establishment ID and password. Then, select the ‘Register Individual’ option and ensure that the previous employment status is set to ‘NO.’
  2. Step 2: Proceed to the Member section.
  3. Step 3: Enter all the necessary employee details, including PAN, Aadhaar, bank information, and other required data.
  4. Step 4: Thoroughly review and approve all the provided details in the Approval section.
  5. Step 5: Upon approval, the EPFO will generate a new UAN for the employee. The employer can then link the employee’s PF account to the newly assigned UAN.

How Can Employers Generate Uan for Newly Joined Employees Not Having UAN?

  1. Step 1: Employers must log in to the EPF employer portal using the Establishment ID and password.
  2. Step 2: Once on the home page, they need to click on the ‘Register Individual’ option.
  3. Step 3: Check the previous employment status and ensure it is marked as ‘NO.’
  4. Step 4: Proceed to the ‘Member’ section.
  5. Step 5: Enter all the necessary details of the employee, including PAN, Aadhaar, bank details, etc.
  6. Step 6: After providing the employee’s details, the employer should review and approve them in the ‘Approval’ section.

UAN Member Login: Can an Employee Generate UAN on His Own?

To generate their UAN (Universal Account Number), an employee can visit the unified member portal at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface. They need to click on the ‘UAN Allotment For Existing PF’ option. Before proceeding, it’s essential to have a valid Aadhaar number linked to a registered mobile number. The employee must also provide their employment details to successfully obtain the UAN.

How to Get a UAN Number on Mobile?

Members registered on the Member Portal receive monthly messages containing their UAN, monthly contributions, and the total balance in their PF account. These messages are sent from the following IDs, where the acronyms represent the names of the SIM companies (first 2 letters) followed by the short form for Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation Home:

How to Get UAN Information Through a Missed Call?

PF members registered on the UAN portal have the option to retrieve their details by simply giving a missed call to the provided number: 011-22901406. It’s essential to use the registered mobile number for this purpose. The call will automatically disconnect after two rings, and there will be no charge for using this facility.

To avail of the missed call facility successfully, two prerequisites must be met:

  1. The mobile number must be activated and linked with the UAN on the unified portal.
  2. At least one of the following KYC (Know Your Customer) details must be available and linked to the UAN:
    • Bank account number
    • Aadhaar
    • PAN

If the UAN is seeded with any of the mentioned KYC details, the member will receive information about their last contribution and PF balance upon giving the missed call.

How To Check Your UAN Status?

  • Step 1: Go to the official UAN portal by visiting the website: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  • Step 2: Click on the tab or link that says ‘Know Your UAN’ or ‘Get UAN.’

  1. Obtain a copy of your salary slip from your employer. Salary slips are usually provided monthly or as per your employer’s payroll schedule.
  2. Look for the section on the salary slip that contains employee-related information. This section typically includes details such as your name, employee ID, and other identification information.
  3. Check carefully for any reference to the UAN. It may be mentioned as ‘UAN,’ ‘Universal Account Number,’ or ‘EPF UAN.’
  4. The UAN is typically a 12-digit alphanumeric number, unique to your EPF (Employee Provident Fund) account.

To change your mobile number on the UAN (Universal Account Number) portal, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Visit the official UAN member portal by going to the website: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  • Step 2: Log in to the portal using your UAN and password. If you have not registered on the portal yet, you can do so by clicking on the ‘Activate UAN’ option and following the registration process.
  • Step 3: Once logged in, look for the ‘Profile’ or ‘Manage’ section on the portal.
  • Step 4: Under the ‘Profile’ or ‘Manage’ section, you will find an option to update your ‘Contact Details’ or ‘Edit Mobile Number.’
  • Step 5: Click on the ‘Edit’ or ‘Update’ button next to the mobile number field.

How to Transfer Money From One PF Account to Another With UAN Login?

  • Step 1: Access the Member Sewa portal and UAN Member Login to your account using your UAN and password.
  • Step 2: After logging in, navigate to the ‘Online Services’ section and choose ‘One Member- One EPF Account (Transfer Request).’
  • Step 3: Fill in the required details of your previous PF account (from which you want to transfer funds) and your current PF account (to which you want to transfer funds).
  • Step 4: Submit the transfer request, and the portal will check if you are eligible for the online EPF transfer.
  • Step 5: If eligible, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Verify your identity by entering the OTP.
  • Step 6: Once the verification is successful, your EPF transfer request will be submitted to the EPFO for processing.
  • Step 7: The EPFO will process the transfer, and the funds from your previous PF account will be transferred to your current PF account.

What to Do if UAN Is Not Seeded With Aadhaar?

If your UAN (Universal Account Number) is not seeded with Aadhaar, you should take the following steps to link your Aadhaar with your UAN:

  1. Visit the official UAN member portal: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  2. Log in to the portal using your UAN and password. If you haven’t registered on the portal yet, you can do so by clicking on the “Activate UAN” option and following the registration process.

  • Step 3: Provide your name, date of birth, and gender, and click on ‘Verify.’
  • Step 4: Enter the captcha code, your Aadhaar number, give consent, and click on ‘Verify.’
