A new programme exclusively for farmers who have lost crops owing to natural catastrophes has been proposed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy.

YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy has proposed a new scheme designed specifically for farmers who have lost crops due to natural disasters. Every year in our country owing to natural catastrophes the farmers have to suffer crop losses. To solve the difficulties, the government has implemented the AP Free Crop Insurance scheme, which provides crop insurance to farmers.

YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme

Crop Insurance under this policy will reimburse farmers for crop losses caused by natural calamities. There will be about 22 crops that have been informed. This crop insurance will be supplied free of charge.Previously, farmers had to pay a significant price to benefit from the YSR Crop Insurance Scheme. Farmers can enroll in this scheme for as little as ₹ 1 under this scheme. Farmers who lost crops during Kharif 2020 will be compensated by the government.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy would deposit this money immediately into the bank accounts of the recipients. This claim will be worth ₹ 1820.23 crores, and it will help around 15 lakh farmers.

Total Amount to be Disbursed by AP Government into the Farmer’s Account

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy would distribute ₹885.45 crores to 404461 farmers in Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts through the YSR crop insurance plan. This sum was distributed during the chief minister’s visit to Chennekothapalli on June 14, 2022. This compensation is provided through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the state government’s crop insurance scheme. The government already announced a disbursement of ₹ 467.81 crores under this scheme to 3.35 lakh farmers in the Anandpur district on June 13, 2022. This sum was doubled.

According to the amended list, 171881 farmers in the Sri Sathya Sai district will receive ₹ 255.78 crores, while 232580 farmers in the Anantapur district will receive ₹ 629.77 crores. Beneficiaries can check their names on the list of beneficiaries at Rythu Bharosa Kendras. The insurance sum disbursed in the Anantapur district in the 2019-20 Kharif season was ₹ 628 crores.

Payment Released under YSR Crop Insurance Scheme

The state government has made a significant announcement on the compensation paid to eligible farmers under the scheme. It has been reported that compensation of ₹.1820.23 crore has been released into the accounts of 15.15 lakh eligible farmers under the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme for the Kharif-2020 season. The payment for free crop insurance was transmitted by computer from the CM’s office in Tadepalli, Guntur district. In his address to the people, the CM stated that he is focusing on another initiative that will benefit farmers.

  • It was said that approximately ₹. 3900 crore had already been put in the farmer’s account under this scheme in the previous month. In a state where agriculture employs 60% of the population, this policy provides a safety net for farmers during hard times.
  • It is claimed that the government is offering relief of ₹.1820.23 crore to 15.15 lakh farmers who experienced crop losses last year. The CM further stated that they had released ₹.715 crore for 2018-19 insurance arrears and ₹.1253 crore for 2019-20 free crop insurance payout, both of which were overlooked by previous governments.
  • A significant decision was made, stating that the state government would bear the losses incurred by farmers as a result of the destruction of Kharif crops during the same season they came. the state government has set up village secretariats for every 2000 inhabitants in the state and roughly 10,778 RBKs are constituted. This programme assists farmers without imposing additional costs on them. This programme insures 21 different types of crops.

Payment of Asserted Amount

The government of Andhra Pradesh has also issued a crop insurance payment of ₹ 122.61 crores for the 2018-19 Rabi season, which the TDP administration had left outstanding. This premium payment was made on June 26th, 2020. After that, roughly ₹ 596.26 crores is paid to 5.94 lakh farmers, while the Andhra Pradesh government paid ₹ 468 crores for Kharif 2019. Between 2016 and 2020, the number of farmers covered under the Scheme increased.

Rythu Bharosa Kendra

In order to aid farmers under the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme, the government of Andhra Pradesh constructed 10641 Rythu Bharosa Kendra, which is integrated with the village secretariat. In light of the Nivar cyclone, crop damage details will be displayed at the Rythu Bharosa Kendra in collaboration with the village secretariat. The farmers’ compensation was paid by December 31, 2020. These records are also available for social audit, and the government would enrol those farmers who are not on this list in Rythu Bharosa Kendra.

Financial Aid from the Government

In a video conference with farmers, Minister K Kannababu, Chelluboyina Venugopala Krishna, AP Agri Mission Vice-Chairman VMS Nagi Reddy, and other concerned officials announced that all crop losses in 2020 will be reimbursed in May 2021. There will be no payment delay. The amount of insurance will be paid to them as soon as the planning department files the report. The government of Andhra Pradesh will also acquire germinated and discoloured crops at the graded MSP, ensuring that no farmer in the state experiences a financial loss.
