What is PICME Number?

Children are the future of tomorrow that need to be properly taken care of. In the last decade we have immensely seen an increase in the graph of infant mortality rate as well as death of pregnant women during the antenatal period. This can be due to various reasons but what's the solution?

To overcome this problem, the Tamil Nadu Government has taken an initiative. Picme or Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluation is an online pregnancy registration system initiated by the Tamil Nadu Government in order to track pregnant women in the state. It aims to ensure proper medical care, required screenings and assistance to pregnant women to make sure the safety of women as well as the inborn child.

Pregnancy plays an important role in the life of a woman. So it becomes important  to ensure the moral responsibilities regarding pregnancy. An insufficient food, unhealthy lifestyle and inadequate care leads to various complications and leads to increase in infant mortality rate. To avoid such complications and to decrease the death rate of infants, Tamil Nadu Government has taken this initiative to pay attention to pregnant women of the state.Every pregnant woman in the state has to get registered with PICME and will get a PICME number following registration.

What is PICME Number?

PICME Registration is more like an initiative towards an aim rather than any scheme. Under this scheme, the Tamil Nadu Government is trying to provide special care to the mothers as well as newborns. As per RCH (Reproductive and child health) PICME registration is a must for every pregnant woman in the state. After successful registration, one will get a PICME number. PICME number is a 12 digit number on your registered mobile number and email id which is different and specific to every pregnant woman. The healthcare assistants will soon get in touch with you and provide you with RCH ID which can only be acquired through PICME number. It will nearly take a month or more to complete the process of registration to which after you can avail the benefits.

Now the question arises how to do registration! Few simple ways are:

  1. Self registration by visiting the official website i.e. picme.tn.gov.in
  2. By contacting nearby Seva centres where registration is free of cost.
  3. By visiting any of the nearby Government healthcare authorities which will register you free of cost.
  4. You can also call toll free number 102 for registration.

Registering online can be more convenient for checking PICME Number status in a nearby future. After your registration, you can login to your profile anytime anywhere through its official website. The authorities through which you registered will also help you access username, number and password. You need not to forget this username, password and PICME Number which would be solely mandatory for future benefits.

Importance of PICME Number

After registering under PICME, pregnant womens can access multiple benefits in terms of childcare. PICME does not only ensure child care but also provides facilities to pregnant women. And for this very purpose, a 12 digit PICME number needs to be kept safe to avail further benefits.Once the woman is registered, the local healthcare professionals will start tracking them and will take special care of the women as well as the child. If one is needed they can also help in all necessary stuff during the antenatal period. They will also help them in terms of documentation, verification and uploading especially to illiterate women. These women registered under PICME will also get financial help of 18000 which will be held in installments according to the criteria.PICME will also help in getting the birth certificate of a child. Many times getting the birth certificate becomes quite difficult but it’s no longer a task for women registering under PICME. To decrease the mortality rate of pregnant women and infants, Tamil Nadu Government had made it mandatory for married women to get registered. They can also avail benefits in the second pregnancy.
