The Spices Board is the regulatory authority of the Indian government that works and promotes the Spices of India in the international market. This body was created in 1987, with the merger of the Spices Export Promotion Council in 1960 and the preceding Cardamom Board in 1968. The obligation and duty of the Board are to supervise the development and promotion of various Spices documented in the Spices Board Act, 1986.

Furthermore, the responsibility of the Board is to approve the certificates to the person who wants to start the spices business. Additionally, under Section 11 of the Spice Board Act, 1986, the Board provides the Registration Certificate to entities as Exporter of Spices.

Validity and Renewal of Certificate of Registration as Exporter of Spices {CRES}

From the block period, the Spice Board Registration Validity is for three years. From three years onwards, your registration certificate is invalid and can not be accepted in any part of India. For instance, if you have obtained the registration certificate for 2016 to 2019, you must renew it at the end of 2019. Presently, the block year is 2021 to 2024.

So to renew the Registration Certification, you are supposed to deliver an application in Form 1 to the concerned authority. It is also permissible that before the expiry of the Certificate, you can apply for the Renewal. The fees for Renewal are exactly the same as a fresh application from the 2018 year onwards.

You should keep in mind that after 31st August of every year, your application for Renewal can not be accepted. If you have to renew your licence, try to apply for it before this date. And in case you fail to apply for Renewal till this date, you are supposed to apply for the fresh registration.

It is also cleared from the Spices Board that if you are holding a valid Registration Certificate and not doing an export business during this period, you are not eligible to get a renewal certificate for the next three-year period  So it is mandatory for anyone having a valid Certificate to do export business in order to get another three-year valid renewal certificate. However, if such an exporter signs an export contract, he may apply to the Spice Board for fresh and new registration.
