A PAN card is an absolute necessity for a company as you cannot open a current account for your business without that. Read the step-by-step instructions given below to know how to get a PAN for your company.
If you do not have a PAN card, you should get one sooner rather than later! In India, a private limited company must obtain a PAN after registering with the RoC (Registrar of Companies). You can also apply for pan processed by filing the e-form NIC-29 along with your application for company registration.
Required Documents for PAN Card For a Private Limited Company
The following are the documents you need to furnish while apply for pan card for your private limited company:
For companies incorporated in India
- Copy of the Certificate of Incorporation/registration issued by the Registrar of Companies (RoC)
- Proof of address for the registered office of the company
- A Demand Draft of the requisite fee (if the payment is made offline)
For Companies Incorporated Abroad
- Copy of the Certificate of Registration issued in the country of incorporation. The same needs to be attested by Apostille*/ Indian Embassy/ Consulate/ Indian High Commission/ authorized officials of branches of Scheduled Indian Banks located in the country of incorporation.
Or
- Copy of the Certificate of Registration issued in India, with the approval by Indian authorities to establish an office in India.
How to Apply for PAN Card for a Private Limited Company
- STEP 1: To visit the paperless PAN application page on the NSDL website, click the URL: https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html
- STEP 2: From the ‘Application Type’ drop-down menu, select ‘FORM 49A’. Also, select ‘Firm’ from the ‘Category’ drop-down menu.
- STEP 3: Fill in your company details in the spaces provided. Write ‘M/S’ in ‘Title’ and your company name in the ‘Last Name’ box. Enter the captcha code and click ‘Proceed’.
- STEP 4: On the next page, you need to specify the source of income of your company. Select ‘Income from business/profession’. If you have income from other sources, tick appropriate buttons accordingly. Similarly, fill in your office address as well. This will be your official communication address on the PAN database.
- STEP 5: In this step, you need to provide your Area Code, Assessing Officer Type, Range Code, and Assessing Officer Number depending upon your address and its corresponding IT jurisdiction area. You can also search for your code by visiting the NSDL website and clicking the ‘AO Code Search for PAN’ link.
- STEP 6: This is the documentation stage where you can upload the required documents related to your company.
- In the declaration section, you need to specify your relationship with the company. Only the company director or an authorised signatory can apply for PAN card on behalf of the company.
- After you fill the form, the same will be available for your review. After checking for errors, click the Submit button.
- STEP 7: In this step, you need to pay the required application fee. You can make the payment through net banking, debit/credit card, and demand draft.
- STEP 8: Once you make the payment, an acknowledgment receipt bearing a 15-digit acknowledgment number will be sent to your email id. With this number, you can check your PAN application status online at the NSDL website.
- STEP 9: You need to send the signed acknowledgment receipt, along with the hard copies of the documents uploaded, to the Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL office, Pune. Send the Demand Draft as well, if you have made the payment offline.
Please note that the hard copies should reach the NSDL office within 15 days from the date of application. The department will then verify your application and accompanying documents. If everything is in order, you can expect to receive your PAN card within 15 business days.
