PAN Card Application for Companies
Companies can apply for a PAN card easily and quickly through both offline and online modes. Further, companies incorporated in India must submit Form 49A to apply for a fresh or new PAN card.
Here’s a quick look at the application process for obtaining a company PAN card.
- First and foremost, business owners must go to the NSDL website’s paperless PAN application page via this link.
- From the homepage, entrepreneurs must select either Form 49A or 49AA, depending on whether they were incorporated in India or abroad. Further, the option for both these forms is available from the dropdown menu titled ‘Application Type.’
- Next, business owners should go to the following dropdown menu titled ‘Category’ and choose the ‘Company’ option.
- Fill out the form by providing the required details, including –
- Title
- Company Name
- Date of Incorporation and
- Contact details
- Further, to complete the verification process, owners must enter the ‘Captcha Code’ as shown and click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
- The system will then generate a token number and send it to the applicant’s email address.
- Moreover, company PAN applications do not have an e-KYC option, so entrepreneurs will have to send copies of all the required supporting documents physically.
- Do note that on the form, all the other details of the company will be pre-filled. The applicant must only fill out the company’s registration number and click on ‘Submit.’
- Further, in the next part, you will have to mention details regarding the company’s source of income. Choose the ‘Income from Business / Profession’ option and select the business type. At this stage, you will also have to mention any other income, such as rent from properties or capital gains.
- Next, submit details regarding your office and communication address and click on ‘Proceed.’
- Further, in the next part, provide details of your Assessing Officer Code, choose the Indian Citizen option and specify your State and City.
You can use the AO Code Search on the NSDL website to find your AO code.
- Specify which supporting documents you will attach with the application and sign the declaration at the end. Only a Director or Authorised Signatory can file a PAN application on behalf of the company.
- Next, please submit the application form, upload the required documents, and preview it before uploading it.
- Next, you will have to pay the processing fees, amounting to ₹110 if your communication address is within India and ₹ 1,020 if the address is outside India. Additionally, entrepreneurs may pay via demand draft, net banking or credit card/debit card.
- Likewise, once you have made the payment successfully, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt. This acknowledgement number will help you track your application’s status.
- Take a printout of this acknowledgement slip, sign it and then send it to the NSDL office with physical copies of your supporting documents.

What to Keep In Mind While Sending the Acknowledgement Slip?
- Make sure the envelope is labelled in the following manner – APPLICATION FOR PAN – <<15-digit Acknowledgement Number>>
- The documents must reach the NSDL office at least 15 days after you have filed the online application.
- Moreover, if you have opted for the Demand Draft option, you must include the DD in the envelope. Such applications will be processed only after the realisation of the payment.
Documents Required for Company PAN Card Application
To apply for a Company PAN card, companies must submit proof of identity and address as supporting documents. Further, the Certificate of Registration serves as proof of identity and address.

Why Do Companies Need a PAN Card?
The Indian government has made it mandatory for all companies that generate an income within India to obtain a PAN card. Further, having a PAN card provides companies with the following benefits;
- It serves as your company’s tax identity, as companies with no chargeable tax liability must possess a PAN card in India.
