Every citizen has the inherent right to recieve good education. The government operates various initiatives to give education to the citizens of the country.
Today, we will present you with information about the Pradhan Mantri Scholarship Scheme, which was launched by the Central Government. Scholarships are offered through this scheme to the children and widows of ex-servicemen, ex-coast guard personnel, police personnel, and railway personnel who were killed in terrorist and naxalite attacks.
Eligibility to Avail Benefits Under PM Scholarship Scheme 2024?
- Applicant must be a citizen of India
- Only students pursuing education in recognized institutions can take advantage of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme
- Those students who are pursuing education outside the country are not eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme
- Apart from this, students getting education through distance learning are also not eligible to get the benefit of this scheme
- All applicants must meet the minimum educational qualification criteria outlined for the chosen course

Benefits of PM Scholarship Scheme 2024
Scholarships will be offered through the Pradhanmantri Scholarship Yojana to the children and widows of police personnel, Assam Rifles, RPF, and RPSF who died as a result of a terrorist or Naxalite attack or while on duty.
Aside from those who have passed away fighting for the country, even if personnel such as police officers, Assam Rifles, RPF, and RPSF are diabled on this count their children will be given scholarships. This plan offers scholarships ranging from ₹2,000 to₹3,000. To be eligible for this plan, pupils must have scored at least 60% in their 12th grade. Students seeking an education overseas will not be eligible for this scheme.
What is the PM Scholarship Selection Criteria?
The implementation and disbursement of the scheme are managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and preferences are given to students in the following order:
- Category A: The highest preference is given to the wards and widows of CAPFs & AR personnel who were killed in action.
- Category B: The second preference is given to the wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who became disabled in action.
- Category C: The third preference is given to the wards and widows of deceased CAPFs & AR personnel who died during their service due to causes attributable to Government service.
- Category D: Next in line are the wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who became disabled during their service with disabilities attributable to Government service.
- Category E: Preference is also given to the wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who have received gallantry awards.
- Category F: Following that, preference is given to the wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel (PBOR only).
- Category G: Lastly, preference will be given to the wards of serving CAPFs & AR personnel (PBOR), depending on the availability of the scholarship.
Please note that dependents of State Police Personnel who have lost their lives during Naxal/Terror attacks will also receive preference in the scholarship allocation process.
PM Scholarship Scheme – Rewards
Under the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme, eligible candidates receive the following scholarship amounts:
- Girls: INR 3,000 per month (paid annually)
- Boys: INR 2,500 per month (paid annually)
The number of scholarships disbursed every year is 2,000 for eligible candidates. It’s noteworthy that the number of girls receiving this scholarship is equal to the number of boys receiving this scholarship.
Additionally, there are 500 more scholarships available for the wards of State Police Personnel who are martyred during Naxal/Terror attacks, starting from the academic year 2019-20. Among these, 250 scholarships are designated for boys, and the other 250 are for girls. The scholarship duration may vary depending on the course duration, ranging from one year to five years.
How to Register for the PM Scholarship Scheme 2024?
Applications for the Pradhanmantri Scholarship Yojana will be accepted through the National Scholarship Portal. To apply, the applicant must submit an application by September 30th of each year. The nodal agency will compile a list of all eligible beneficiaries by the 20th of October. To apply, follow the steps outlined below:
