The pandemic brought upon by the COVID-19 virus has been a very testing time for everyone. But the sector affected the most by this calamity is the unorganised labour sector. The unorganised sector employs people only daily. However, due to the lockdown, the workers couldn’t seek employment in the daily sector and this class of people barely have any savings to sustain themselves through these trying times. To assist these people, the government has introduced several initiatives. Uttar Pradesh has a large population of floating labour in the unorganised sector. These people migrate to seek employment in other parts of the country. But with the lockdown in place, many of them were forced to return home and become dependent on the incumbent government for sustenance and financial aid. Under the said circumstances, the UP government launched the Asangathit Kamgar Scheme or the UP unorganised workers registration scheme. All unorganised sector workers can get the benefits of various types by registering under this scheme.
All unorganised sector workers can register themselves by visiting the portal of the Social Security Board. This registration can be done by the workers themselves and can also be done through the CSC centre. After getting this registration done, social security will be provided to the unorganised sector workers. This portal was launched on 9 June 2021. 45 types of workers can get themselves registered on the portal. To get the registration done the worker has to pay the registration fee which is ₹60. This includes a registration fee of ₹ 10 and a subscription at the rate of ₹ 10 per year. Only those workers whose annual income is less than ₹ 1,80,000 can get this registration done.
Features of the Unorganized Workers Registration Scheme
All the registered workers will be given the benefit of two schemes of the government by registering under the umbrella scheme. These are the Chief Minister Accident Insurance Scheme and Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana. Through the Chief Minister’s Accidental Insurance Scheme, assistance will be provided up to a maximum of ₹ 2,00,000 in case of death in accident or disability and through the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana, a cashless treatment facility of up to ₹ 5,00,000 will be provided to the registered worker and his family. An appeal has been made by the government to all the unorganised sector workers and organisations to get themselves registered on the portal as soon as possible and take advantage of the schemes. If farmers want to register under the scheme, they should have less than two and a half acres of land.
