Unnat Bharat Abhiyan: Aim, Benefits and Features

The Government has launched Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a scheme to uplift the underprivileged citizens of India. So, if you want to know in detail about the scheme and its upliftments, read this article.

Introduction

The Indian Government actively launches various schemes to provide a helping hand to those who are underprivileged. The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (the Advanced India Campaign) was launched to uplift those villages that are lagging in education.

This scheme was initially introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and was spread nationwide by the Government via the Ministry of Education. The scheme aims to find out the reason why the development of the villages is being hindered and to work on removing those root causes.

The motive is to improve and develop the rural parts of India and ultimately take the nation forwards.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Yojana Second Edition

On August 25, 2018, MHRD started the second iteration of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Yojana. The Ministry of Education is the new name for the nation’s Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 is an improvement over the first. But in its most recent iteration (Challenging Mode), this is not the case. As a result, it is now compulsory for various higher educational institutions to adopt at least five villages. The UBA 2.0 initiative is still advancing.  750 elite private and public educational institutions are covered by this edition.

Objectives of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Scheme

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan aims to make higher educational institutes, partners in the development of villages. The educational institutes will bring their knowledge and experience to the table to help in the growth of the villages. The objectives of this scheme can be summarised as follows.

Even though the nation is continually making progress, some of the villages are struggling for basic education and other facilities. The scheme is designed to give a helping hand to the rural part of India. As education is the primary focus of the scheme, educational institutes have been onboarded as partners.

The goal of the scheme is to provide a sustainable solution for all the issues present in the village. The scheme aims to use the resources available to educational institutes for the betterment of society. This can be a great opportunity for those students who wish to contribute to nation-building.

Implementation and Progress of the Scheme

The scheme was launched on the 11th of November 2014. The Government has partnered with several higher educational institutes under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme. IIT Delhi was appointed to act as the National Coordinating Institute and other prestigious institutes were gradually onboarded. Various organisations working for rural development were also consulted.

These institutes were supposed to handle local issues, needs, problems, etc., and work at grassroots levels to find feasible solutions to those problems. They worked with the local gram panchayats, social workers, district administration authorities, school teachers, etc.

The Government launched the second phase of this scheme in April 2018. 750 higher educational institutes were selected to adopt various villages. So far, the network has grown with 26000 educational institutes helping 14000 villages. Each Higher Education Institute (HEI) is linked with a group of 5 villages. The institute will work towards the social betterment and educational needs of its designated group of villages.
