16% Contract Agencies In Government Hospitals Reserved For Dalits

The Telangana state procedure to reserve 16% of contract agencies in public hospitals for scheduled tribes was launched by T. Harish Rao, the state’s minister of finance and health. On March 29, 2022, this choice was made in the Koti office of the commissioner of family welfare. Officials from the Telangana state Medical Services Infrastructure Development corporation chose the facilities where the reservation will be allowed. The choice was made by random drawing. K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Telangana state’s chief minister, launched this programme.

The main objective of this initiative is to lessen Dalits’ social untouchability while also helping them out financially. In the past, the scheduled caste received these tenders since the irrigation department held 21% of the bids. Furthermore, Dalits are already using reservations at wineries. A reserve is currently being provided by the government.

Selection Of Hospitals To Be Done With Draw

The government has separated hospitals with much less than 100 beds into one group and those with more than 100 beds into another category. Dalits receive 16% of the beds in government hospitals. The draw will decide the reservations in a transparent manner. A tender will be launched for the 56 hospitals that the government has allocated to the Dalits. Additionally, the government amended the tendering regulations. The government has raised the fee per bed from ₹5000 to ₹7500 in order to enhance sanitary management in government facilities. Additionally, the government would yearly invest an additional ₹325 crore. The administration is considering implementing reservations in medical shops.

Pilot Project Under Telangana Dalit Bandhu Scheme

Before drafting the rules for the programmes, officials are also urged to explore the colonies and speak with the families there to get their perspectives. Beneficiaries will be chosen as from eligible Dalit families after the development of guidelines. Along with the ₹1200 crore, the CM also announced an additional ₹2000 crore for the Huzurabad pilot project.

Reservation In Government Licence

The government would also establish a system of quota in industries where it grants licences in an effort to support Dalit entrepreneurship. The government will provide Dalits reservations when granting licences for establishments like wineries, pharmacies, fertiliser stores, rice mills, etc. In addition to providing financial aid, the government intends to establish a corpus known as the Dalit Security Fund continuously to assist the recipient in the event of any hardships. The district collector will be in charge of managing this money. A minimal contribution from the recipient is required for this fund. In order to track the development of the programme, the government will also issue identification cards containing electronic chips.
