Details of Revised Education Scheme for Children

The Industries and Commerce Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, offers a scholarship scheme to support the education of children belonging to Artisans/Weavers of Handicrafts and Handloom Departments. The scholarship is available for a maximum of two children per Weaver/Artisan. Payments are made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the student, with amounts of ₹ 1500 per year for primary education, ₹ 2000 per year for Classes 6th to 10th, and ₹ 3000 per year for Classes 11th and 12th. The scholarship amount for Technical/Professional Courses is based on the actual course fee determined by the Government.

Eligibility of Revised Education Scheme For Children

  • Parent of the applicant must be a Weaver/Artisan.
  • Parents should be registered with the Handicrafts and Handloom Departments, possessing valid registration cards/certificates.
  • Applicants should not have received benefits from schemes like Pre-Matric Scholarship, Post-Matric Scholarship, Prime Minister’s Scholarship, or any other similar schemes.
  • Applicants must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Zonal Educational Officer and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer.
  • Applicant should meet one of the following conditions:
    • Possess a Below Poverty Line (BPL) Card, Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Ration Card, or       Priority Household (PHH) Card.
    • Hold an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Certificate.
  • Total annual income of the applicant’s parents should be ₹ 90,000 or less, with an Income Certificate issued by a 1st Class Magistrate/Tehsildar.

Application Process of Revised Education Scheme For Children

The selection of scholarship beneficiaries from eligible registered Weavers/Artisans’ children will be conducted by the respective Assistant Director in collaboration with their field staff. This process includes proper verifications and is based on the target set for the financial year and the availability of funds. The Assistant Director of the relevant District will invite applications from eligible registered Weavers/Artisans by publishing a notification in a prominent daily newspaper or through electronic media.

Benefits of Revised Education Scheme For Children

  • ₹ 1500 per year for primary education.
  • ₹ 2000 per year for Classes 6th to 10th.
  • ₹ 3000 per year for Classes 11th and 12th.

For Technical/Professional Courses, the scholarship amount is based on the actual course fee determined by the Government. All payments will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly to the student.

Exclusions of Revised Education Scheme For Children

The applicant should not have received any benefits from the following schemes implemented by these departments:

  • Pre-Matric Scholarship
  • Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme
  • Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme
  • Any other scheme.
