On 19 February  2024, Chhattisgarh is set to launch the Pradhan Mantri School for Rising India PM SHRI School School. The inauguration event will witness the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai as chief guests. Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, the Central Government aims to elevate 14,500 government schools nationwide through the PM SHRI Yojana. In its initial phase, 211 schools in Chhattisgarh, comprising 193 at the elementary level and 18 at the secondary level, have been selected for the upgrade. This initiative will provide students in these schools with access to information and communication technology (ICT), digital classrooms, and valuable internship and entrepreneurship opportunities facilitated through partnerships with local industries.

About PM SHRI School Scheme

The Cabinet approved a new centrally sponsored scheme, PM SHRI, on 7 September 2022. These schools are envisioned to implement the National Education Policy 2020 and evolve into exemplary institutions over time, serving as leaders for neighbouring schools. They will lead their regions in providing high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment that caters to the diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and varying academic abilities of children. This approach aims to make students active participants in their own learning process, aligning with the vision of NEP 2020.

Under the scheme, more than 14,500 PM SHRI Schools (PM Schools for Rising India) will be established by enhancing existing schools managed by the Central government, State/UT Governments, and local bodies. The scheme is proposed to run from 2022-23 to 2026-27, following which it will be the responsibility of States/UTs to sustain the standards achieved by these schools. It is expected to directly benefit over 20 lakh students. The total project cost is estimated at ₹27,360 crore spread over 5 years, with a central share of ₹18,128 crore.
