Annually, pilgrims visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. However, due to financial constraints, Karnataka residents face difficulties visiting the temple. To alleviate these difficulties, the Karnataka government offers a ₹ 5000 subsidy to 30,000 pilgrims, for seven crores. This is a one-time opportunity for yatris. Only interested pilgrims are eligible for the Kashi Yatra tour organized by the government.

The Kashi Yatra Scheme was proposed in the 2022-23 budget, and proof of visit is required by submitting necessary documentation, tickets, travel photos, and receipts to the relevant department.

The government only recently put out the Kashi Yatra plan in the budget for 2022–2023, and the Karnataka government swiftly approved it in late June. The website gateway for the programme was opened shortly after June to enable pilgrims to apply for the subsidy.

Karnataka’s First Bharat Gaurav Train is to be Ready from September to October

The Bharat Gaurav train will run from Bengaluru to Varanasi, with stops in Ayodhya and Prayagraj. The government has allocated 500 crores for this train. The journey is 4100 km and takes 7 days, with 14 coaches, including 11 AC 3-tier coaches. A part of the train will be transformed into a temple, with bhajans for pilgrims travelling from Karnataka to Varanasi as part of the Kashi Yatra. The fare for travellers on this train has been set at 15,000.

Karnataka Kashi Yatra Scheme Benefits and Key Points

  • The Kashi Yatra programme offers each pilgrim 5000 in financial support
  • This program supports yatris despite the distance, in addition to providing cash assistance
  • The financing for the plan has been granted for 7 crores under the account heading ‘Assistance to Manasa Sarovara Pilgrims’
  • This programme is available to pilgrims who travel to the Kashi Yatra in Karnataka between April and June. Pilgrims only need to present documentation of their temple visits, and the relevant department will then notify them accordingly
