Objectives of the Godhan Nyay Yojana

The Godhan Nyay Yojana is designed to achieve the following objectives.

  • Prevent the open grazing of cattle.
  • Avoid accidents caused by cattle roaming on the streets
  • Promote the use of organic manure and other sustainable farming practices
  • Boost the animal husbandry industry
  • Make organic manure available at affordable prices
  • Help the farmers to be profitable in agricultural businesses.

Implementation of the Godhan Nyay Yojana

The scheme is implemented via the Gouthans (cowsheds) built by the Government in various villages. The Government has built around 5000 Gouthans in collaboration with the local Grampanchayats (village councils) around the state. The cowsheds purchase the cow dung for 2 per KG from the farmers and cattle rearers.

After the cow dung is procured, The Gouthan hands it over for processing. Women Self Help Groups (WSHG) selected by the Government work to turn it into vermicompost. The organic fertilizer made from cow dung is again sold to farmers at  8 per KG to promote sustainable farming practices.

Progress of the Godhan Nyay Yojana

The scheme was launched in 2020 to increase the income of local farmers. The Government has started buying cow dung from the cow-rearing farmers who are registered under the scheme. So far, 65,694 farmers have been registered under the scheme. The Government has purchased 82,711 quintals of cow dung from 46,764 farmers. The cow dung is purchased at a fixed price of 2 per kg. The money has been disbursed to these farmers directly via their bank accounts opened with the local cooperative banks and societies. It is also required that the beneficiaries link their Aadhar cards to their bank accounts.
