The government of Rajasthan organised the Rajasthan Rural Olympic Games, which started on August 29th, with the aim of bringing recognition to the athletic talent in rural areas of the state and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills. The games took place at the Gram Panchayat, Block, District, and State levels and consisted of six different sports, including kabaddi, kho kho, shooting ball, volleyball, tennis, and ball cricket. The Sadulpur MLA and President of the Sports Council, Krishna Poonia, who won a gold medal in discus throw at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, was in charge of the event. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot allocated a budget of ₹ 40 crore for the Rajasthan Gramin Olympic Khel, which was distributed to the Sports Department and Education Department.

On the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot officially launched the Rajasthan Rural Olympic Games Scheme. The event was marked by a flag-raising ceremony at the state level in Pal village of the Luni assembly constituency, which was conducted by Gehlot himself. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister also honored the parade of participating athletes. The Sports Council President, Krishna Poonia, praised the event as the largest in the world and said it would bring forth a wealth of talent. Poonia also noted that when he won a medal at the Commonwealth Games, Gehlot had already envisioned promoting sports in Rajasthan, and now the state provides special appointments and grants to medal-winning athletes.

The primary goal of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in launching the Rajasthan Gramin Olympic Khel 2022 is to provide a platform for talented athletes from rural areas of the state to showcase their skills.
