It mandates specific labelling standards before pre-packaged commodities in India and governs the pre-packaged goods sold there. This regulation requires certain declarations to be printed on every package, and these declarations are as follows:

  • Please include your company’s name and address if you are the manufacturer, packer, or importer.
  • In the case of packages that are imported, the country of origin
  • The item’s common or generic name, as it appears on the packaging Net quantity, expressed in terms of a standard unit of weight or measure or number. 
  • Month and year of production, packaging, or importation
  • The retail purchase price is the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), in Indian rupees, inclusive of all taxes.

  • Registration of Importer, Manufacturer, Importer, and Packers 

For a company to market their goods in India, they must get registration or renewal for their packaging and warehouses. This is necessary for product labels that fall under the purview of the Legal Metrology Certification.
