What Are the Categories of APEC Registration?

Primary Objective of the Apparel Promotion Export Council (AEPC)

The APEC was established with the primary objective to enhance the export of ready-made garments from India across the globe. The council also provides support and assistance to domestic garment exporters. The APEC, however, does not include service to ready-made garments made up of woollen, leather, jute, and hemp. 

Activities Performed by the APEC

The APEC undertakes the following activities as a part of its responsibility to promote the exports of ready-made garments across the world. 

  • It conducts fairs to provide opportunities for the exporters to get in touch with various international players. 
  • Conducting workshops and seminars is another important activity of the APEC.
  • The APEC provides statistics and data to its members through its library, monthly magazine, and its website.
  • It organises Buyer Seller Meets to expand the export business of its members.
  • The APEC sends delegations to identify potential markets across the globe. It also conducts surveys to identify potential products for export.
  • To expand the scope of garment exports, the Apparel Promotion Export Council.
  • Council launches schemes and incentives for domestic apparel exporters.

Categories of Registration Under the APEC

The APEC has two categories under which Indian garment exporters can register. 

The categories are:

  1. Registered Exporter, and
  2. Member Exporter.

 Any applicant or firm who is an exporter of ready-made garments, whether a manufacturer exporter or merchant exporter, is eligible to register as a Registered Exporter of the council.

 To convert or become a Member Exporter, the apparel export firm has to satisfy the following criteria laid down by the Executive Committee of the council:

  1. The applicant has to be a registered firm/company. Or in the case of a sole proprietorship firm, the person has to be more than 21 years of age on the date of the membership application.
  2. The applicant or any director, partner, or Karta of the export firm should not be deemed insolvent by any competent court of law. 
  3. The applicant or any director, partner, or Karta of the export firm/company should not have been convicted for an offence involving any moral turpitude or misconduct.
  4. The firm or company should have an aggregate export performance of more than ₹1 Crore during the preceding three financial years.

Documents Required to Convert to a Member Exporter

The applicant who fulfils the above-mentioned criteria may apply to the APEC for a conversion from a Registered Exporter to a Member Exporter with the following documents:

  • The exporter’s turnover of ready-made garments for the three preceding financial years. The same has to be duly attested by a Chartered Accountant or a banker.
  • A Copy of the ANF-2C application form is duly filled out completely.
  • A Proof of payment of the fee
  • The Original copy of the Registration Cum Membership Certificate(RCMC) of the Registered Exporter.

The above documents can be submitted either at the Registered Office/Head Office of the Council or concerned branches of the council.
