Overview and Benefits of Mera Pani Meri Virasat Scheme
Haryana’s Chief Minister has launched the Mera Pani Meri Virasat Yojana to promote water conservation. The state government is providing financial assistance to farmers under the this Yojana so that they do not face any difficulties in abandoning paddy cultivation. The Chief Minister of Haryana state, in launching this scheme, stated that the government will provide an incentive of ₹7000 per acre to farmers living in the dark zone who will give up paddy cultivation. Aside from paddy, farmers in the state can grow maize, arhar, moong, urad, sesame, cotton, vegetables, and other crops.
In the first phase of this scheme, 19 state blocks with groundwater depths greater than 40 meters have been included. Paddy is grown in eight blocks, including Kaithal’s Siwan and Guhla, Sirsa’s Ratia, Fatehabad and Shahabad, Ismailabad, Pipli, and Babain. Aside from that, those areas have also been completed under the Haryana Mera Pani Meri Virasat Scheme, which employs tubewells with a capacity of more than 50 horsepower.
However, in blocks where the water level is below 35 meters, permission will not be given to cultivate paddy on Panchayati land.
