7 Important Things to Know about FSSAI License Renewal Process

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India It is the top food business regulation in India, enacted by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is the highest-ranking authority in charge of issuing the FSSAI registration or license. If you have started or want to start any form of food business, the first and the foremost requirement is FSSAI registration. 

Though FSSAI registration is mandatory, food business operators (FBO) still need to accomplish another submission: FSSAI renewal. As soon as FSSAI license validation expires, it needs to be renewed at the earliest. Note – FSSAI renewal process is as necessary as FSSAI registration online process. In this article, we are going to know some of the important and frequent questions related to the FSSAI license renewal process.

What Is the Importance of FSSAI Renewal?

The FBO must ensure that he or she maintains FSSAI license valid by applying for the renewal process. He or she must keep a check on the renewal process, in case of delay will lead to a heavy penalty. If the food business operator forgot to renew with the given due date, the FSSAI license will be considered as invalid. If such a situation occurs the FBO will not be permissible to pursue its food business activities. Therefore, it is said to keep an update on the renewal process of the Food license.

What Is the Validity of FSSAI?

FSSAI validity is set for a limited period which can be between 1 to 5 years. The business operator can choose the validity of License as per the business need. For any reason, there should not be a delay on renewal, it must be done soon before the validation period expires.

How Many Days Are Provided to Renew FSSAI License Prior to Its Expiry?

The Food business operator must apply for the FSSAI license 120 days prior to the expiry of food registration or license validity.

What Happens If I Don’t Renew My FSSAI License?

If you fail to renew the FSSAI license, you‘ll be charged ₹100 per day. It is calculated from the date of expiry of FSSAI license validity.

What Is the Procedure for FSSAI Renewal?

Listed below are a few steps for the renewal process. FSSAI has created an online portal called FLRS, where FLRS stands for Food licensing and Registration System.

  • First, you need to visit FLRS website, use your login details such as Username and password. Existing users will be able to login to the FLRS platform
  • You need to select the tab called ‘Apply for Renewal for Registration/license’
  • You will be provided with a pop-up list on your screen. Just select the appropriate link and click ‘Proceed’
  • You will receive a confirmation message popping on your screen asking ‘Are you sure? You want to apply for renewal of license?’ Click the ‘OK’ button to proceed
  • Now, you’ll be asked to upload all the necessary forms along with the essential documents as per the need of the FLRS platform
  • Once you have uploaded the forms and documents, review it properly and choose the ‘Submit’ button
  • You will receive an ARN (Artificial Reference Number).
Note down this ARN for future use such as to track the status of FSSAI registration/license renewal process.

How to Contact FSSAI

The FSSAI department will send you an email once your license is renewed.If you want to modify or make any change in license contact the FSSAI department. You can find the contact details of an officer on the application status.

Note – if you haven’t answered by clicking the ok button for confirming your renewal process, it will be considered as incomplete. You must start the renewal procedure from the beginning

What Are the Documents Required for FSSAI Renewal?

During the renewal process, applicants will be asked to attach documents along with the application form. Form A – You must file this form, if FBOs turnover falls under ₹12 lakhs Form B – You must file this form, if FBOs turnover is between ₹12 lakhs to ₹2 crores. For FSSAI renewal process, you must have all the below documents with you for easy attachment.

  1. FSSAI license fee.
  2. Self-declaration copy.
  3. Identity proof if any such as ( voter ID, Passport, Driving License, Aadhar card)
