Currently, the municipal government offers a variety of online services, including marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates, and estate tax payments. 

A bill has been prepared based on the Law Commission’s suggestions. In 2012, the Marriage Laws (Extension) Bill, 2010 was passed in congress to change the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 and the Special Marriage Act of 1954 to make divorce simpler on the grounds of the irreversible collapse of marriage. In Clause 13-B, the phrases “not earlier than 6 months” are replaced with “Upon acceptance of a plea.”

The procedure for marriage registration online in UP is quite simple, but it may take about a month to get the marriage registration certificate in hand.

According to the marriage registration rules of 2017 in Uttar Pradesh, the government has guaranteed to make it a criminal law that all the marriages are to be held with the Additional District Magistrate the D.M Office.   1. Both the male and female candidates have to be Hindus; and
  2. The bride and groom should be eligible to get married according to the rules and regulations;

Documents Required for Marriage Registration 

  1. Application forms of marriage registration;
  2. Affidavit for the marriage registration in the mentioned format;
  3. Age proof of both the candidates – It can be either a birth certificate or a mark sheet;
  4. Address proof requirement – ration card provided by the government, Voter card, Valid Driving licence, and passport;
  5. Present photographs of the couple – conjoined photo;
  6. Marriage invitation card or letter at the time of social marriage; and 
  7. Witness proof – photographs along with their presence.

UP marriage registration certificate, also known as UP Vivah Panjikaran, is a valid document, and its validity is lifelong.

Procedures for Marriage Registration Online in UP 

The Uttar Pradesh Government has made it easy for couples to apply for marriage registration online based on Aadhaar Card. To register online, both candidates should possess valid Aadhaar cards. The guidelines are as mentioned below:

Point 1: Visit IGRSUP (Integrated Grievance Redressal System of UP);

Point 2: Click the marriage registration option on the website;

Point 3: On the next page, the mentioned option will ask to put information from the Aadhaar card, and once done, the system will generate an OTP that is sent directly to the first applicant’s registered mobile number;

Point 4: All details will be channelised from the Aadhaar number provided, including a photo of the candidate;

Point 5: On the next page of the portal, the first applicant has to apply information for the second applicant’s Aadhaar details. An OTP will be generated to the registered mobile number of the second applicant, and details will be sourced from the Aadhaar card automatically;

Point 6: From the next screen onwards, both the applicants have to fill up their details to apply to the marriage registration under UP marriage registration rules;

Point 7: Next comes the uploading of the current photographs of both the bride and the groom’ click to save the page and proceed further;

Point 8: Next step includes giving detailed information about the marriage registration online application, including the date and place of marriage, for a smoother procedure. Click to save the page;

Point 9: Next is the input of witness’s details in the web portal as it is a mandatory part while filing  for marriage registration;

Point 10: Photographs should be uploaded for the mentioned witnesses;

Point 11: Once the details of the applicants are completely entered, one can click on the preview icon to check for any mistakes made that can be corrected before the final submission of the form;

Point 12: Make a go-through of the application form, click on the submit button for the final submission of the application form;

Point 13: Note down the application number and password provided from the website for further reference;

Point 14: Pay the Application fee through any payment medium; and

Point 15: After going through a vigorous procedure by the higher authority, the marriage registration certificate will be issued to the couple.
