How to get Free Electricity in Karnataka?
Karnataka residents can get free electricity from July under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. Karnataka State government announced that all consumers consuming less than 200 electric units will get a zero-electricity bill based on the usage in 2022-23.
Calculation of Average Electricity Consumption for Gruha Jyoti Scheme
Consumers who consume less than 200 units of electricity a year will receive free electricity. This is how the government calculates the average electricity consumption for a connection:
An average electricity consumption is equal to the average of the electricity units consumed between April 2022 and March 2023 plus 10%.
During the financial year 2022-23, consumers who consume more than 200 units of electricity will not be eligible for free electricity. Consumers will not be charged if their monthly consumption is below or equal to their average consumption.
Consumers who consume more than 200 units of electricity a month but less than the average consumption unit will be charged the difference. A consumer whose average electricity consumption is below 200 units, but who consumes more than 200 units in a month, will be responsible for the full month’s bill.
