The Karnataka government has introduced the Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme to offer health insurance to state employees and their relatives. In essence, it is a comprehensive healthcare programme that allows participants to get free medical care at facilities approved by the government. This plan can only be utilised for tertiary and emergency care goals for catastrophic illnesses that call for inpatient care, surgeries, and other forms of therapy. Beneficiaries may receive care in super speciality hospitals that have been appointed.

The seven specialities covered by this program include—cardiology, oncology, genitourinary surgery, neurology, burns, polytrauma situations, and neonatal and paediatric surgery—which are all covered for tertiary and emergency care. The beneficiaries of this scheme are not needed to register in any way in order to benefit from it. They simply need to update the information about themselves and their dependents in the DPAR HRMS database.

Identification Of Beneficiaries Under Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme

The government insurance department policy number will be used to interface with the HRMS database of the department of personnel and administrative reforms will be used to identify beneficiaries under the Jyoti Sanjeevini Scheme. Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust has been given permission by the government to access the database of all government employees and the dependents of the beneficiaries, which includes the spouse and children of government employees as well as their parents (including stepmothers if they ordinarily reside with a government employee and their total monthly income does not exceed ₹6000).

Implementation Of Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme

Beneficiaries may use the cashless system under this programme, with the following exceptions:- 

  • When the beneficiary chooses stents, implants, etc. that are more expensive than those covered by the benefit package
  • When the beneficiary chooses a better ward than what is offered as part of the benefit package
  • The beneficiary is responsible for paying the increased expenses in both situations.

Objective of Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme

The primary goal of the Jyothi Sanjeevini scheme is to offer health insurance to Karnataka’s state government employees. Beneficiaries will be allowed to receive treatment in the hospital that has been appointed through this programme. They will benefit from protection against high medical costs as a result of this. This programme covers all tertiary and urgent care services for the seven specialties. With this programme, recipients no longer need to be concerned about the cost of their medical care because the Government of Karnataka will guarantee that all beneficiaries receive cashless care.

Note:   When patients are admitted to super-specialty wards on the Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme hospital list, the government pays 50% of the costs.

Eligibility Criteria of Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme

  • The applicant must reside in Karnataka permanently
  • The candidate must be an active state government worker
  • Pensioners are not included in this programme
  • People working in assisted autonomous institutions without KGID numbers connected to the HRMS database are ineligible to apply for this programme
  • Because there is a different health insurance programme for law enforcement personnel called the police Arogya Bhagya programme, the police department is likewise ineligible to apply under this programme.
