IGNDPS – Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme

The Indira Gandhi National Disability Scheme, initiated in February 2009 by the Ministry of Rural Development under the Central Government, aims to assist disabled individuals in India. As part of the National Social Assistance Program, it provides monthly pensions to those with disabilities of 80% or more, who are above 18 years of age and fall below the poverty line. Eligible individuals can apply to improve their quality of life.

Introduction

The Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) operates as one of the five sub-schemes within the broader framework of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP). Its primary focus is on extending financial assistance to individuals below the poverty line who are afflicted with severe or multiple disabilities, aged between 18 and 64. Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive a monthly pension of ₹200, aiding in their subsistence and well-being. This initiative’s launch under the aegis of the Ministry of Rural Development demonstrates the government’s commitment to uplifting disabled individuals and fostering an inclusive society.
