How to Check GST ARN Status?

You may check the status of the application on the GST Portal. In this blog, we will walk you through the steps using which you can narrow your GST ARN status without any hassle. This article explains the steps to track the GST registration status using ARN or GST ARN status checks.

What is ARN?

The ARN refers to an Application Reference Number (ARN). This unique number is given to each transaction completed at the GST Portal. It will also be generated on submitting the Enrolment Application signed digitally using DSC. ARN could be reused in future communications with GSTN. It helps the applicant to track the GST Registration Process status till the time he/she gets the GST Registration Certificate and GSTIN. How to Check GST ARN Status?

If you want to track the GST ARN status online, follow these steps –

  • Tracking GST ARN Number is easy nowadays; you may check GST Status using your ARN Number.
  • The Application Reference Number (ARN) is given on the application. The status of your application by monitoring this ARN. To view the status of your ARN after logging into the GST Portal, perform the following steps.

What is the format of ARN?

There is a definitive first of ARN. The ARN number format or ARN number is a 15-digit alpha-numeric code, where:

 First, two codes are alphabetical.

  1. The next two digits represent the code of the state.
  2. The subsequent four codes indicate the month and year.
  3. The following six digits are the unique system-generated numbers and
  4. The last code shows the checksum digit.

 GST ARN Track Status

There can be six different outcomes for ARN tracking when an applicant tracks the ARN status, and they are as follows:

  •  Form Assigned to GST Officer

This ARN Status appears at the time when the GST Search is assigned to the GST officer for processing and approval. It should be kept in mind that this status does not imply that your GST Registration application has been cancelled.

  • Pending Clarification

The ARN mentioned above status comes when the GST officer requests the applicant to submit the clarification on the filed GST Registration application. In this scenario, the applicant must provide an explanation as quickly as possible on the GST Portal.

  • Clarification filed – order pending.

This status appears when the applicant files a clarification against the concerns escalated by the GST Officer. However, the order for approval is still on hold from the GST side of the GST officer.

  • Clarification not filed – order pending.

This ARN status is displayed when the applicant fails to explain to the GST officer within the time frame specified. Furthermore, the applicant’s GST registration application is likely to be refused by the relevant GST officer.

  • Application Approved

If the applicant gets this status after tracking the status, then this means that the GST Officer has approved the application for GST registration. The applicant will receive a GST identification number (GSTIN) and a GST registration certificate shortly after this status appears.

  • Application Rejected

This ARN status appears when the GST officer rejects the GST Registration application. Moreover, if the applicant wants to register under GST, they need to re-submit the GST Registration form.

How to Track GST ARN Status?

Once the applicant has received the GST ARN, the status of the GST Registration may be checked on the GST Portal by using GST ARN. The applicant must follow the steps outlined below to track their ARN number and check their ARN status:

 Step 1 Visit the GST Portal using the following link https://www.gst.gov.in/

Step 2 – Select the “Registration” option from the drop-down menu under Services.

Step 3 – After selecting registration from the drop-down menu, click the Track Application Status link.

Step 4 – Once you click Track Application Status, you will be taken to a new page where you must enter the Application Reference Number (ARN). After that, you need to select the SEARCH option to follow the status of ARN.

I still haven’t got the Application Reference Number (ARN). What do I have to do now?

If you don’t receive ARN within 15 minutes of submitting the Enrolment Application, an email will be sent to you with detailed instructions for further action.

What else to do when GST Registration is Completed?

1. If you are a taxpayer and have received an Acknowledgement Reference Number (ARN):

  • The Provisional Registration Certificate can be downloaded from “Download Certificates” on the GST website.

 2. If a taxpayer has saved the enrolment form with all the information but has not yet submitted it via DSC, E-Sign, or EVC, the taxpayer must:

  • The taxpayer will receive an ARN at their registered email ID if the data is successfully validated.
  • In case the validation fails (data like PAN not matching), you should be able to log in to the same portal and correct the errors. Refer to the registered email for the details of the errors.

3. If you are a taxpayer who just completed a portion of the enrolling form, you must:

  • You can log in to the portal on the date mentioned above and complete the rest of the form.

4. If you are not a current taxpayer and wish to register for GST for the first time,

  • You can apply for a new registration on the GST portal.
