However, it is not always necessary that all the details will be mentioned correctly in your passport once you obtain it. There are chances of recording the wrong details- be it the name, address, sex or other details. There is no guarantee that the process is error-free. Therefore, even after the issuance of the certificate, the details can be very easily changed in the passport following the prescribed procedure. More or less, the procedure for changing any of the details remains the same. In this article, we will brief you about the procedure of changing gender in the Indian Passport:

Step-1: Obtaining the Relevant Forms.

In order to begin the process of correction of the mentioned sex in the passport, the first step is to obtain Form No.2. This form is made available online (on the website) as well as offline at the Passport Seva Kendra Office. This form is related to miscellaneous services and thus covers ‘sex’ in it. In case the process is being taken up online by the applicant, then the option for Reissue of Passport is to be chosen and edit the sex in the particulars section.

Step-2: Production of Relevant Documents:

After having filled up the required changes in Form 2, it will also require the production of necessary documents. These documents have to be produced in the appointment that is fixed after filling up Form

Based on the documents that are produced by the applicant, the individual will also have to provide an authorization letter signed by himself or herself. The list of documents is as given below:

  • Duly completed and Notarized Application Form
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of identity
  • Original passport with a photocopy of the first two and last two pages that have been self-attested
  • Sworn affidavit regarding the sex change
  • Certificate from the hospital where the individual underwent a sex change operation.

Once the documents relating to the change sought is verified by the authorities, it is corrected and sent to the applicant via post. The earlier passport with incorrect details automatically stands cancelled. Like a name change, there is no requirement in sex-change to be published in the official gazette or an affidavit, it is solely on the basis of the application and relevant document verification that the same is carried out.
