Beneficiaries of the Nirman Shramik Scheme:
The Nirman Shramik Pension Yojana has been devised to provide financial assistance and cater to the needs of older construction workers. These workers are daily wage earners and therefore they can’t do strenuous activities related to construction in their old age, unlike their youth. Thus, this scheme helps them with a certain amount of money every month so that they can enjoy the basic amenities of life like food, medicines, etc. in their old age.
Not just the old construction workers but the benefit of this scheme is also extended to the wives of the construction workers who had lost their lives and to the workers who are or have become physically handicapped. It should be noted that the beneficiaries of this scheme must not have an annual family income of more than ₹ 24000 and they must be permanent residents of the state of Odisha. - Apart from this, the Odisha Government has also increased the amount of maternal subsidy from ₹ 8000 to ₹ 10000 to provide financial support to pregnant mothers
- Also, medical assistance worth up to ₹ 3 lakhs will be provided to the workers suffering from any serious illness
- In the later years, the scheme is expected to provide benefits to over 25 lakh workers and/ or their families.
- This scheme does not mandate the workers to get registered under any state boards like State Construction and Building Welfare Boards, etc. to derive benefits. This is done to ensure maximum coverage from the scheme.
