Bank holidays are public holidays that are recognized by the government and financial institutions. These holidays typically include important national and religious observances, such as Christmas, New Year's Day, and Easter. During bank holidays, most banks, government offices, and businesses are closed, and public transport services may be limited. Bank holidays are an important time for people to relax, spend time with family and friends, and celebrate important occasions.
In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, all private and public banks will remain closed on national and government holidays. The Government bank holidays in India are classified as State and Central Government holidays. The Negotiable Instruments Act, which was passed in 1881, also provides for real-time gross settlement holidays and off days for banks closing accounts.
