For the financial year 2023-24, the regular tax rates for individuals below 60 years are as follows:

  • No tax up to an income of ₹2,50,000.
  • 5% tax on income above ₹ 2,50,000 but up to₹5,00,000.
  • 20% tax on income above ₹ 5,00,000 but up to ₹10,00,000.
  • 30% tax on income above ₹ 10,00,000.
  • If the total income doesn’t exceed ₹ 5,00,000, an individual can get a rebate under section 87A, which is either ₹ 12,500 or 100% of the tax, whichever is lower. If the taxpayer chooses the new tax regime under section 115BAC and the total income doesn’t exceed ₹ 7,00,000, the rebate under section 87A is either ₹25,000 or 100% of the tax, whichever is lower.

Additionally, there will be a health and education cess of 4% on the tax amount.

Mr. Jay estimates that he will have a taxable income of ₹ 10,00,000 this year. Without any deductions, he expects to pay ₹ 112,500 in taxes. To follow the rules, he plans to make four advance tax payments:

By or on 15th June, he will pay ₹ 16,875 (15% of the estimated tax).

By or on 15th September, another payment of ₹ 33,750 (45% of the estimated tax) is planned.

Before or on 15th December, a third payment of ₹ 33,750 (75% of the estimated tax) is scheduled.

The final payment of ₹ 28,125 (100% of the estimated tax) will be made before or on 15th March.
