Aadhaar Seva Kendra: Charges, Process and Lists

UIDAI announced in June 2020 that 14,000 Aadhaar centres (Seva Kendras) had reopened across India after the lockdown restrictions were lifted. Additionally, UIDAI has allowed the Common Service Centre, a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Ministry of IT and Electronics, to start updating Aadhaars at 20,000 Banking Correspondents (BCs).

Aadhaar cards in India are issued and regulated by the Unique Identification Authority of India. To facilitate Aadhaar-related processes, the UIDAI launched Aadhaar Seva Kendras or ASKs. In addition, these ASKs serve as a one-stop destination for all Aadhaar services in India. The UIDAI planned to open a total of 114 Aadhaar Seva Kendras across over 53 Indian cities in its first phase. Not only would this help make the Aadhaar card more accessible to people. The ASKs that opened initially were spread across State capitals, metro cities and UTs, later spreading to smaller cities and towns. 

Therefore, there will be 35,000 Aadhaar Kendras run by post offices, state governments, banks, and BSNL offices under the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. ASKs are open every day from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. UIDAI’s portal allows individuals to schedule appointments up to four times a month. These ASKs will provide Aadhaar services to all eligible Indian residents.

Aadhaar Seva Kendra provides Aadhaar cards to all eligible residents. Additionally, it makes it easier for them to maintain and update their cards. Citizens will be able to complete all Aadhaar re-verifications through these centres as the government mandates more links. What are the Charges for Aadhaar Services at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra?

Here’s a quick look at the chargers set by the UIDAI for Aadhaar-related services offered by the Aadhaar Seva Kendras. Therefore, please note that all the charges mentioned below are inclusive of taxes. Hence, the individuals who visit the ASK can opt to pay either by cash or by online payment at the time of booking an appointment through the UIDAI portal. 

  • Aadhaar Enrolment is free of cost for all eligible residents and citizens.
  • The mandatory Biometric update for children aged between five and fifteen is free of cost.
  • Any biometric or demographic update for individuals will cost  ₹ 50.
  • Downloading or printing of an Aadhaar will cost users  ₹ 30.

What is the Service Process at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra?

  1. Users may either walk-in for an appointment or book one online through UIDAI’s official portal.
  2. They should first go to the Contact Help Desk and ask for an appointment or show the executive their appointment Slip.
  3. Then, they must go to the Token Desk.
  4. When it is their turn, the user must head over to the Verifier’s desk to request for a particular service.
  5. Once the service has been processed, they must move to the Cash counter and make the appropriate payment.
  6. In case they made the payment online, they must show the payment slip at the counter and have it verified.
  7. Lastly, they must complete the update or enrolment process at the Operator Desk.
