Linking Your Aadhaar With Your BSNL Mobile Number

In this article, we will take a look at the step by step process of linking your Aadhaar card with your BSNL mobile number

Recently, the Central government released a directive asking individuals to link their Aadhaar card with their mobile numbers. The government requested BSNL to re-verify all their active mobile numbers with the holder’s Aadhaar card.

Such a move will help the government validate the genuineness of the subscriber, and ensure there is no fraud involved. Failure to comply with this linking exercise will lead to deactivation of the number after the prescribed deadline. In this article, we will take a look at how BSNL mobile users can link their Aadhaar to their mobile number.

Offline Linking Of Aadhaar With Your BSNL Mobile Number

All BSNL users can link their Aadhaar card to their mobile number and re-verify their credentials by visiting a BSNL Service centre. Here’s a quick look at what users need to do to complete the process of linking.

  1. First and foremost, users must visit the nearest BSNL service centre in their area.
  2. The users should carry with them their BSNL SIM card and a self-attested copy of their Aadhaar.
  3. Provide the customer care executive with your BSNL mobile number and 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  4. The store official will now send a 4-digit code to your mobile number.
  5. Next, the user must read out the code to the executive to complete the verification process.
  6. The users will then have to complete their biometric scanning.
  7. Within 24 hours, the users will receive a confirmation message regarding the verification process.
  8. To complete the process, the users must reply with a ‘Y’.
  9. After linking your Aadhaar card and your BSNL mobile number, you will receive a confirmation message regarding the same.

Linking Aadhaar with Your BSNL Mobile Number Via IVR

  1. First and foremost, users should call BSNL’s toll-free IVR number.
  2. Then, they must select the Aadhaar verification option from the IVR list.
  3. Next, users will have to enter their 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  4. Confirm your response to the operator to initiate the verification process.
  5. After authentication, you will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number regarding the same.

Linking Your Aadhaar with Your BSNL Mobile Number Via OTP

The government has made it mandatory for all telecom operators to give their users a chase to complete the inking via OTP-based verification. However, users can avail of this facility only if they have registered their mobile number with their Aadhaar. In case users have multiple mobile numbers, and one of them is not linked to the Aadhaar, they will have to visit a BSNL Store to get the number verified.

What are the benefits of Aadhaar Card?

There are several benefits of the Aadhaar card, current and long term. So it is important to get enrolled under the Aadhaar scheme. Let us take a look at some of the benefits.

  • Strong proof of Identity – Prior to Aadhar, any government proof could be used as a proof of identity. These documents were, in fact, issued for specific purposes and their utility as an identity proof was only incidental. Also these documents were rather easy to forge. Aadhaar is the first government document issued purely for the purpose of identification and since it records the biometric details of the card holder, it is nearly impossible to forge.
  • Strong proof of address – Again, there has never been a document issued specifically as an identity for address. Government identities like passport and driving licences that incidentally happen to have the residential address of the ID holder were used as proof of identity. Now the aadhaar card will serve as a comprehensive document for identification and authentication of all personal details of the cardholder.
  • Ease of availability – The process of applying for an Aadhaar card is relatively simple because it mainly uses biometric details for identification and the presence of aadhaar enrolment centres in multiple locations also make it easily accessible.
  • Applying for other government documents – Having an Aadhaar card makes it very easy to apply for other government documents given that all the details in the Aadhaar system are biometrically authenticated and verified. So the process of repeating the details is taken out of the way, making it easier to apply for other documents such as passports or voter’s id.
  • Availing government welfare schemes – Having an Aadhaar card gives the holder direct access to several government welfare schemes such as LPG subsidies, Jan Dhan Yojana and even making withdrawals from the Provident fund.

Points To Remember

  • If you provided your Aadhaar details but not your biometric details during SIM activation, you would need to re-verify it using the methods given above.
  • BSNL will not charge users for linking their Aadhaar and BSNL mobile number.
  • You will have to re-verify the Aadhaar and complete the linking of the same with all your active mobile numbers.
  • All individuals who have a BSNL/MTNL connection, whether it be postpaid or prepaid must re-verify their Aadhaar.
  • Since the process requires only a re-verification, users do not have to submit any additional documents.

Conclusion

Getting your Aadhaar card linked to various other utilities of your life has been met with a lot of scepticism and doubt. But if you look at the larger picture and the fine prints of the scheme, the benefits outweigh the doubts. So it is highly advised to link your Aadhaar card as per the guidelines of the government.
