The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a major tax reform that came into effect in India in July 2017. With this new tax system, businesses had to reorganise their operations to ensure that they were compliant. One of the ways businesses have adjusted is via return forms for GST.
You must be registered for GST. You can register for GST on the GST website. The registration process takes about 10 minutes. You will need to provide your name, address, contact number and email address. You will also need to upload proof of identification (a passport, driving license or ID card) and proof of registration with the Tax authority of the state where you live (for example, a copy of your utility bill). If you are a company, you will also need to provide proof of incorporation (a certificate from the registrar of companies).
Once you have registered for GST and uploaded your necessary documents, you can start filing your returns online using the portal. You can also download Forms 16A and 16B from the portal to file your returns manually if you prefer.
Under the GST, all businesses, irrespective of their size, are required to register for an GST registration number and file a GST return. All businesses with an annual turnover of over ₹50 lakhs are required to register for a GSTIN.
To file your GST returns online in India, you will need to sign into your account with the GST portal. Once you have logged in, you will be asked to select your filing status and submit your return. There are a few steps that you will need to follow to complete your return.
First, you will need to determine whether you are an individual or a company. If you are an individual, you will need to input all of the information for yourself into the return form. If you are a company, however, you will need to create an account for yourself and input all of the information for your company into the return form.
After determining your filing status and submitting your return, it is time to pay your taxes! You have two options when it comes to paying your taxes: online payment through the GST portal or through an approved payment gateway.
Once you have filed your return and paid your taxes, you can relax - Congratulations on completing your first ever GST Return!
In India, the GST (Goods and Services Tax) returns have to be filed by the due date which is July 31st of every year. If any changes have been made in your business since the last return was filed, you must file a status report indicating the changes. Even if no changes have taken place, you are still required to file a return if you are taxable.
Vakilsearch offers a user-friendly platform that makes it easy to enter information and track your progress throughout the filing process.
