Check Out the New Guidelines for Updating Aadhaar Cards

After 10 years have passed since the date of enrollment, the Indian government changed the Aadhaar guidelines to state that supporting documentation related to an Aadhaar must be updated "at least once." The Ministry of Electronics and IT announced that this update would guarantee the "continued accuracy" of Aadhaar-related data in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

In order to maintain the accuracy of their information in the CIDR, Aadhaar number holders may update their support documents in Aadhaar at least once every 10 years from the date of enrollment by submitting Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents, according to the guidelines that the authority may from time to time specify. The Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016, have been amended to implement the new rules.

In October, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) urged people to update their Aadhaar identification and residence proof documents, if their unique ID was issued more than 10 years ago and they had not updated their details since then. The Aadhaar update effort is focused on demographic data and excludes biometric updates.
