Universal Account Number

The UAN is a 12-digit unique number allotted by the EPFO to each of its members and stays with them throughout their employment.

Activating the UAN is simple and can be done online on the EPFO portal. All you need is your UAN, registered mobile number and email ID. Once you have these handy, follow the steps given below:

  • Visit the official website
  • On this page, click on the 'Activate UAN' option.
  • Enter your UAN, registered mobile number and email ID in the respective fields and click on 'Submit'.
  • An activation link will be sent to your registered email ID. Click on this link to activate your UAN.
  • Once your UAN is activated, you can login to the EPFO portal using your UAN and password to view your account details and transact online.

Documents Required

The following documents are required in order to obtain a Universal Account Number (UAN) in India:

  • A copy of the applicant's PAN Card.
  • An attested copy of the applicant's bank account statement or passbook.
  • A self-attested photograph of the applicant.
  • An attested copy of the applicant's address proof (such as ration card, electricity bill, water bill, etc.).
