The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India FSSAI issues three different types of food licenses in Punjab. They are:

    The Central Government issues the Central License. The Food Business Operator (FBO) if present or perform operations in more than one state, must receive the license for their head office.     FSSAI State License:

    The State Government issues the State License. The Food Business Operator or FBO if present or performs operations in only one state, must receive the license from the State Government. FBOs like SMEs, retailers, transporters, distributors, marketers, etc must secure the license from the State Government. It is mostly issued to the units with an annual turnover that is over Rs.12 lakhs.

    FSSAI Basic Registration:

    The FSSAI Basic Registration Punjab or FSSAI Registration Punjab is issued by the State Government. FSSAI registration in Punjab is mostly issued to those units that have annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs. FBOs like small-sized manufacturers, marketers, transporters, distributors, retailers, etc who are eligible according to the minimum requirements will be registered into the system.

    How to renew a Food License in Punjab, and what are the penalties for delayed renewal?

    The FSSAI registration in Punjab and food license acquisition is a fundamental step carried out by every food business owner. This has to be done before starting the business itself. The FSSAI license must also be renewed promptly to eliminate any penalties of legal consequences.

    The validity of a food license can range from 1-5 years. The Punjab food authority license fees for registration and renewal may differ based on the license tenure. To obtain a renewal license, the food business owner must apply for renewal 30 days before the expiry date.

    Renewal of FSSAI License in Punjab - Procedure

    To receive an FSSAI License renewal, the application for the license renewal can be filed using Form-B. It is applied to the concerned authority of the Central License or the State License based on the business’s eligibility criteria.

    The application will be self-attested by the business owner conforming to the rules, regulations and bylaws of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It also indicates that the business owner will oblige to the hygiene and sanitary rules and will practice the same, as per registration and license regulations. This is accompanied with the other required documents and the renewal fee for the FSSAI license fees in Punjab.

    Following this, the inspection of the business process will be done by the FSSAI authorities. Post confirmation of the proper process being carried out, the renewal license is issued.

    If not intimidated about the renewal within 60 days from the inspection process, the business owner can commence the business operations and won’t be facing any legal consequences due to it.

    There are two types of penalties imparted on the food business by FSSAI.

    1. Penalty on Delayed Renewal for FSSAI Licence

    If the documentation of the application hasn’t been completed within the stipulated time, there will be a penalty of Rs.100 per day until the completion of the FSSAI Licence renewal process.

    2. Penalty on Delayed FSSAI Registration Renewal

    The Punjab Food Authority License Fees for registration will be collected again if the renewal of the existing licence hasn’t been completed within the advised period. There will be a gap considered between the time of the expiry and renewal, and business operators will be asked to apply for a new license under FSSAI registration in Punjab to continue with the business operation. Both the FSSAI Registration Punjab and the food license will be considered in power until the renewal confirmation post 30 days from the expiry date of the license.

    Required Documents for the FSSAI Registration Process

    The Food Business Operator (FBO) must furnish all the below mentioned do to avail the food license.

  • Application form
  • Layout sketch of the business processing unit
  • Certificate or Plan for Food Safety Management System
  • Detailed List of Directors/Partners/Executives along with their contact details.
  • NOC obtained from the municipality or other relevant authorities
  • Manufacturers’ NOC and license copy (applied for re-labellers and re-packers)
  • Premise Ownership Proof
  • Nomination of personnel by a company and board resolution.
  • An Authorization letter with the details of the person nominated by the manufacturer and entitled powers (if any)
  • Details of the alternative person nominated in the absence of the original entitled person.
  • Plan for recall, when necessary.
  • If FBO is a manufacturing unit, then the following are to be attached as well;
    • a. Attachment of the list of food categories to be manufactured is required
    • b. Report on the chemical state of water to be used in the food ingredients while manufacturing. Their bacteriologic and pesticide residue state of the water are also reported.
  • Proprietorship Affidavit (if FBO is a proprietorship firm).
  • MOA and AOA of the firm (if FBO is a company).
  • Deed of Partnership (if FBO is a partnership firm).
  • Certificate issued by the Ministry of Tourism (if it's a hotel business).
  • Turnover proof or self-declaration of the total number of vehicles in the business (applicable for traders and transporters).
