Benefits of FSSAI License in Tripura

Consumer awareness:

Consumers in this intelligence era are very vigilant and have an overwhelming understanding of the nature of the food they consume. Considering the number of diets and the increase of healthy food intake choices, it is crucial for consumers to know that what they are eating is not only nutritious but to a similar quality. Consumers today have continued to exclusively follow the food health standard. It ensures the company wants the FSSAI certification and will offer an extra advantage in ensuring the consistency of the product and increasing the consumer base.

Legal Benefits:

The perception that a food license is a complicated process requiring tiresome documentation and substantial money is not completely valid. A corporation, as stated in FSSAI law, can not function without proper registration. This provides you with a substantive benefit over rivals working without a license. You must have sufficient evidence of identification to prevent the risk of paying fines.

Business Expansion:

A Food Business Operator (FBO) normally wants the business to expand to new regions and areas. This indicates that their customers' trust should have been accrued, and they should feel safe to buy from you. If an FBO has a valid food license, it is much easier to open up at a new location. So it can be achieved much quicker to expand the company. Furthermore, this would also improve matters for the FBO when receiving financing or bank loans.

Using the FSSAI Logo:

You can skillfully use the FSSAI logo in the menu cards, brochures as you have the authorization to advertise your food's superior quality to the consumers. Nonetheless, it offers you an advantage over those food operators who don't have the certificate. All packaged food, therefore, has to have an FSSAI number. The emblem is regarded as a symbol of legitimacy and affirmation of the customers' safety. In reality, strict customers want to eat different food products that have a license. The logo 's appearance would help the FBO establish brand awareness.

The food protection officer describes it in keeping with the standard of conformity as:

  • Compliance (C)
  • Non-compliance (NC)
  • Partial compliance (CP)
  • Not observed / Not applicable (NA)
  • According to the above, the food safety agent may give notice of improvement, if appropriate in compliance with Article 32 of the FSS Act, 2006. If the business applicant refuses to comply with the notification of improvement, the officer may revoke the license after allowing the licensee to demonstrate reason. Any food business operator adversely affected by a notice of improvement can appeal to the State Commissioner for food protection. Through appealing to the Food Safety Appeals Tribunal / High Court, their ruling will be contested.

    The penalty for different types of non-compliance is as follows;

  • Food quality which does not comply with the Act-The fine amount is Rs.25,000/- for a small manufacturer of 2 lakh turnover.
  • For a state of food under-standard, the fine is Rs.5 lakhs.
  • For foods that are misbranded -The fine amount is Rs.3 lakhs.
  • With an inaccurate representation of the product or deceptive advertising-Rs.10 lakhs is the fine amount.
  • For non-compliance with Food Safety Officer's instructions-The penalty value is Rs.2 lakhs.
  • For unhygienic manufacturing or processing -The fine amount is Rs.1 lakh.
  • For extraneous food items -The fine sum is 1 crore.
  • Penalties:

There are two types of penalties imparted on the food business by FSSAI.

Penalty for delayed renewal of the FSSAI License

If the application document has not been submitted during the stated time, a fine of Rs.100 will be levied every day before the renewal phase for FSSAI licenses is completed.

Penalty for delayed renewal of the FSSAI Registration

The food authority will collect licensing fees once again if the renewal of the existing license has not yet been completed within the specified time limit. A difference between the expiry dates and the renewal dates will be perceived. FBOs will be required to request for a new license under FSSAI registration in Tripura to continue with the business venture. Following 30 days from the expiry date of the authorization, all FSSAI applications and the food licenses will be considered valid before renewal confirmation.

History of FSSAI and recent updates

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is India's food corporation, formed in August 2011 under the provisions of the 2006 Food Safety and Standards Act. Whilst being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of India's government, FSSAI is treated as an independent organisation.

India's government has appointed FSSAI's Chairman and Chief Executive. The Chairman is of the same level as the Secretary of Government of India.

For all Indian states, the Indian Food Safety and Standards Authority is a legislative agency to regulate all food businesses in each jurisdiction. As a consequence, every food business operator in Tripura is issued an FSSAI license by Tripura's FSSAI regulatory body. FBOs that involve food suppliers, retailers, the owners of food stalls, etc. We require a 14-digit identification number or authorization code, which would then be shown on the product packaging.

Many additions to the FSSAI regulations happened since its creation. The following are the latest updates:

  • In February 2020 it was announced that FSSAI had set clear guidelines for namkeen and the country's wide packaged sweets market. This is a step that would see manufacturers and retailers of such processed products reduce back on the use of sugar, fat, salt to allow maximum use of the raw materials in their product.
  • In May 2020, FSSAI initiated an online training system to tackle the challenges of maintaining unimpaired food supply while retaining the possibility of contracting for SARS-COV-2. It is known as the source of coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The training system is intended to support members such as staff, customers, and others
  • FAQs on Food License in Tripura

What is meant by Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS)?

A Food Safety Management System (FSMS) is a network of related components that combines to ensure the food item does not trigger any adverse health effects. Those elements include initiatives, strategies, procedures, practices, policies, processes, goals, objectives, techniques, limitations, roles, responsibilities, connections, documents, records, and assets.

How does the FSSAI categorize non-standardized products?

The Indian food authority has adapted the below strategies to combat non-standardized goods:

    a. Proprietary foods: Any non-standardized product containing ingredients other than additives that are either normalized or authorized for use in food preparation according to Food Safety Standards and Regulations may be noted as proprietary foods.

    b. Unspecified food: A food or food item acquired by new technology with an innovative engineering process, where the process may result in significant differences in the structure or composition or size of the food or food ingredients that may alter the nutritional benefit, metabolism, or amount of undesirable substances.

Where to handle non-specified or novel food compliance?

The manufacturing process of new ingredients, additives, and processes other than those prescribed in the FSS regulations would make the product novel. No person shall therefore import, manufacture, and market products without prior permission from the Food Authority (FSSAI), as provided for in section 2 of the novel food regulations. Thus, the novel food manufacturer's brand owner will file a manual application with the authority to get a go-ahead.

What should consumers do if they do have a recalled product?

The customer should not consume the product and return it to the store owner from where they bought the product, or return it to the representative of the company.

Can an FBO under one license carry on different activities at the same premises?

The license is place-specific. Thus, only one license or registration is valid for one single premise with several companies interrelated to each other. Therefore, if operations are carried out in the same premises for the production of meat, milk & fruits & vegetables, there must be a different license as these would be carried out in separate portions and companies are not related. However, one license is applicable in the case of fruit & vegetable processing & godown or store along with it since these are connected activities.
