8th Pay Commission Approved for Central Govt Employees by Cabinet

The Union Cabinet, led by PM Modi, has approved setting up the 8th Pay Commission to revise salaries and pensions for central government employees.

Over 49 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners will be impacted by the revisions proposed by the 8th Pay Commission.

Pay commissions revise salary structures every decade. They also define pension payments and allowances for central government employees.

The 7th Pay Commission increased minimum basic pay to ₹18,000/month and pensions to ₹9,000, benefiting millions of employees and retirees.

A chairman and two members will be appointed soon. Consultations with stakeholders and state governments are set to follow.

Employees of PSUs, autonomous bodies, and gramin dak sevaks are not covered by the central pay commissions; they have separate pay scales.
