GST Registration Fees for Company Registration

Wondering about the GST registration fees in India? Let’s find out in this blog!

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime is a point-of-sale or destination-based indirect tax. It has been able to eliminate ‘tax on tax’ or the cascading effect of indirect tax since its introduction in 2017.

The businesses registered under the GST Act receive a 15-digit ‘Goods and Service Tax Identification Number’ (GSTIN). All in all the regime has brought several different taxes under one umbrella, making the indirect taxation system more efficient and effective. In fact, the GST certificate is considered valid proof that a business is a legally recognised entity.

Initially, the GST Act required enterprises with an annual turnover of more than ₹20 lakhs to register as taxable entities. However, according to the resolution of the ’32nd GST Council Meeting’, states were given the choice of adopting a new threshold limit which was raised to ₹40 lakhs for those selling goods or sticking with the former ones. This new limit went into effect on April 1, 2019. Read on to find out more about GST registration fees.

GST Registration Fees for Proprietorship/ Individual/ Company/ Partnership

The government of India does not charge any GST fees. In India, the cost of GST registration is NIL, which means that you do not have to pay any fees to register as a GST taxpayer on the government’s official portal. However, for example, if you are a proprietor or director of a private limited company, partner of an LLP, or owner of an OPC, you must have a valid digital signature in order to file for GST Registration. So expect to bear the cost of obtaining a DSC if you do not have one already.

Professional Costs Involved in Obtaining GST Registration

Though there is no official government fee for GST registration, it is realistic to expect certain expenditures to be incurred during the GST registration procedure. The most noticeable expense incurred during GST registration is the professional fee that must be paid in order to ensure that the registration process is hassle-free.  While it is not required to use the services of a professional while registering for GST:, it is strongly recommended.
