What is ARN?
Each time you buy or sell something online, you get a unique number called an Acquirer Reference Number (ARN). This number is shared with the bank and the merchant, but it’s not essential to the buyer unless they want a refund. So, what is an ARN number? How does it work?
As the transaction moves from the merchant’s bank through the payment processor to the cardholder’s bank, a unique number is created. This number is called an “Acquirer Reference Number” or “ARN.” These unique digits make your transaction easy to track down if there is a mistake with your bank or merchant account along with your status of GST Registration Process in India.

What is the Format of ARN?
There are 15 digits in the ARN number format. The alpha-numeric code is called an ARN number.
- In the first place, two codes are alphabet
- The following two digits are the state code
- The next 4 codes show the month and year
- The next six digits are a unique number that was made by the computer
- In the last line of code, there is a checksum digit that can be seen

Step by Step Process to Check ARN – Before Login
You can check the status of your GST status or registration even if you don’t log into the GST India portal:
Step 1: Take a look at the GST Portal, then go to “Services,” then to “Registration,” then to “Track Application Status”
Step 2: You can choose “Registration” from the drop-down menu shown in the screenshot below
Step 3: In your email, you’ll get an ARN or SRN that you can use to sign up for GST. Enter the Captcha code and click on “Search”. When you apply for GST registration on the MCA portal, you get a Service Request Number (SRN). This number is unique for each application
Different colours are used to show how the application is progressing. To show you an example, if your current status is Stage 3, it will be green until you reach Stage 3, at which point it will turn greyed out
The ARN will be one of the following:
- Pending for processing: During the time that a new registration application has been successfully submitted and is waiting for the Tax Officer to process it
- Site Verification Officer assigned: The Site Verification Officer is assigned when a registration application is indicated for a site visit and verification
- Site verification completed: Site verification is considered accomplished when the Site Verification Officer submits the verification report to the tax officer
- Pending for clarification: When a tax official sends the applicant a notification requesting clarification
- Clarification filed – Pending Order: When an applicant successfully files a clarification request with the tax officer, and the officer is awaiting their decision
- Clarification not filed: Pending for order – This status happens when the applicant fails to file a clarification within a certain number of days, and the order is pending
- Approved: When an applicant’s Registration ID and password are emailed to them after the tax officer accepts their new registration application
- Rejected: A new registration application is denied when it is rejected by a tax official
Step 4: Check the status of your GST registration application online and take appropriate action based on the GST ARN status.
Step by Step Process to Check ARN – After Login
After logging onto the GST portal using the ARN or submission period, some taxpayers can track the application status (such as new registration, core amendment, or cancellation, etc). It is not available to applicants for the first time registering for GST.
Step 1: Log in to the GST portal and select Services > Track Application Status from the drop-down menu
Step 2: Select Registration from the drop down menu below the “Module”
Step 3: You may get the application status from the ARN or SRN, as well as the submission date
Step 4: To acquire the acknowledgment, click on the text “Download”.

29 August 2021
If the last deadline for rescinding a cancelled GST registration happens between 1 March 2020 and 31 August 2021, taxpayers will be given an extension until 30 September 2021. It applies if the GST registration is cancelled in accordance with Section 29(2) clauses (b) or (c) of the CGST Act via CGST notice number 34/2021 dated 29 August 2021.

The deadline for filing an application for revocation or cancellation of registration between 15 April 2021 to 29 June 2021 is 30 June 2021.
1 May 2021
The time limit for taking actions, responding to, or passing orders under Rule 9 of the CGST Rules, 2017 that occurs between 1 May 2021 and 31 May 2021 has been extended up to 15 June 2021.
