WhatsApp Rolls Out Passkey Feature: Enhance Your Account Security

Did You Know? WhatsApp's 'Check the Facts' campaign highlighted safety features like block, report, and forward labels, aiming to raise user awareness and combat misinformation.

WhatsApp prioritizes user safety with new features to enhance security. A key update is the passkey feature, now on both Android and iOS, making account verification safer.

Initially for beta testers, passkeys are now available to all iOS users with the latest WhatsApp update (24.9.78). The update also supports audio in video calls and offers a revamped interface.

Passkeys offer authentication options like facial recognition, biometrics, or a PIN. These enhance security by eliminating the need for passwords or SMS-based two-factor authentication.

When set up, passkeys are stored in the iCloud Keychain. This allows users to access WhatsApp using their device's passcode or biometric authentication, even without an internet connection.

To enable passkeys, update WhatsApp via the App Store. Go to Settings, click Account, and find the Passkeys option. If it's not there, keep checking for the latest update.
