What is GST?

Goods and Services Tax, which is also known as GST, is an indirect tax applicable in India that has replaced many of the country's Indirect Taxes. On 29 March 2017, the Parliament had passed the Goods and Service Tax Act. and thereby, the Act came into force from July 1st, 2017. In simpler words, let's say, the Goods and Service Tax (GST) is an indirect tax imposed on the purchase of goods and services. The legislation has replaced many of India's existing Indirect tax rules as well.

Benefits of amendments in GST registration

GST registration seems to be the primary and necessary move for current taxpayers, under the GST rule. This is because they will not get a GSTIN number without registration of GST, which is set as a taxpayer's basic identification number. If you fill in the correct details in the registration form, then you are perfect to go on. But what if you have entered incorrect details or skipped some essential fields, which you have to fill? That's why there is another way for you to sort it out - The amendment of the GST registration.

Rule 12 and Form GST REG 14 provides us with a way to ease the challenges without visiting any government offices to fix the details. An applicant can update certain information and change the details without any authority's approval. Indeed, some fields need approval but the editing can be done online. When you apply the modifications that you want to make in the GST registration, then you have to mandatorily specify the reasons for the GST amendments. There are three types of amendments that can be done in the GST registration. Let's dive in to check out more about it.

The types of Amendments in GST

  • Change in the core field
  • Change in Non-core field
  • Change in email ID or mobile number

Change In Core Fields: The Core Field revisions include the company's legal name, the location of the business (the main one), and any additional place where the business takes place. It almost takes 15 days to get permission to change the Core Fields.

Change In Non-core Fields: Several fields do not need approval from a proper office and while considering the non-core fields, it is easy to make amendments in the registration online. All fields except those occupied by core fields are all a part of the non-core field.

Change In E-mail ID or Mobile Number: Usually, when changing the email or mobile number, it requires an OTP on the GST portal after the online verification.
