Trademark Dispute
Sony PlayStation India release date continues to be a mystery till now. As a result, people are buying the PlayStation 5 consoles from the grey market at unreasonable prices but Sony is now warning these people against such purchases. The PlayStation maker has said these imported consoles bought from unofficial sources will not be covered under an official warranty.

SONY can now go ahead with its much-anticipated launch of Play Station 5 (PS5) in India. The global launch for PS5 has a schedule for 12th November 2020. But, the same got delayed in India because of a trademark dispute. Hitesh Aswani, a Delhi resident, claimed to have filed for the same trademark way back on October 29, 2019. SONY came to know about it when it filed for the PS5 trademark in India on February 6, 2020. SONY promptly contested the earlier filing by Aswani, which put the launch of PS5 in India till recently.

However, in a recent development, Aswani has withdrawn his trademark application and has paved the way for SONY to launch PS5 in India soon. The latest order from the trademark registry shows that Aswani registered the PS5 trademark under application number 4332863 in 2019. Later, Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc opposed the trademark, and subsequently, a proceeding was initiated under Section 21 of the Trade Mark Act, 1999. Later, Aswani withdrew his trademark on 26th October 2020.

Post the solution to the trademark dispute, SONY is gearing up to launch its much-awaited PS5 in India soon. It will be launched in 2 variants in India- a digital edition and a regular edition (with a CD drive). The digital edition of Play Station 5 will have a price at Rs 39, 990 onwards while the regular edition will cost Rs 49,990. Both the variants of PS5 will have the same specifications. In addition to the consoles, SONY has also fixed the prices of the Play Station 5 accessories. Sony announced that the PS5 HD camera will cost Rs. 5,190, Dual Sense PS5 controller will come at Rs. 5,990, the Media Remote will cost Rs. 2,590, the Pulse 3D Headphones will cost Rs. 8,590  and the DualSense Charging Station will cost Rs. 2,590 in India.

SONY India is still silent on the exact launch date of Play Station 5 in India. It is yet to inform the retailers on when to receive the PS5 units and when to make the sale ‘live’. But, the buzz in the market is that SONY will launch PS5 in India in the last month of 2020 itself.
