What is PICME?

The full form of PICME is Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluation. It is an online pregnancy registration system that has been deployed in Tamil Nadu in order to track pregnant women. The PICME number will, therefore, work as a sort of identification number for pregnant women in the state of Tamil Nadu. A website has been set up to facilitate online pregnancy registration, and also to provide PIMCE number verification. Pregnant women can register right from the onset of pregnancy, and the process ends on receiving the Birth certificate for their baby. This scheme comes under the National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu, and is a campaign by the Public Health Department. Everyone who registers under the scheme will receive a 12-digit PICME number.

What is Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme?

To make things even easier for new mothers, women registered under the PICME scheme can avail financial help under the Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefits Scheme. As per this scheme, financial assistance of up to an amount of INR 12000 is provided for expectant mothers.

During the 7th month, mothers can receive up to Rs. 4000 as the first instalment.

Following this, the second instalment of  Rs. 4000 is provided right after the delivery.

To help boost vaccination, the third instalment of Rs. 4000  is given after the child receives his or her third booster for the DPT, Hepatitis and Polio vaccine.

  1. To claim a birth certificate in TN, an RCH ID is now mandatory.
  2. This RCH ID is provided when women sign-up for the PICME scheme.
  3. Furthermore, this registration will provide further benefits to the expectant mother, such as fiscal help and better access to medical facilities.
