  2. Next, users must select both physical PAN and e-PAN option.
  3. The applicants must then enter all the details requested carefully and click on Submit once they are done.
  4. Once the submission is accepted, the users will receive their e-PAN through their registered email ID in PDF Format.

  1. Assessing Officer Code – The applicant must fill this field first, and it consists of the area and range code, AO type and number. Applicants can look for such information online through the NSDL Website’s search option for the AO Code.
  2. Full Name – Choose the appropriate title from Mr Ms. and Mrs. and then write your full name in block letters in the space provided.
  3. Name Abbreviation – Write the abbreviation of the name you want to be printed on your PAN Card. Try to ensure that the abbreviated name you provide is the same as the name you have on all your other documents.

The structure of Form 49AA is quite similar to that of 49A. However, in this case the KYC details of the applicant are also necessary. A foreign institutional investor or a Securities and Exchange Board of India-certified Qualified Foreign Investor must fill this section. The details needed include the following:

  2. Citizenship Status
  3. Occupation details

What sector they work in, which includes the following options:

  1. Private Sector
  2. Public Sector
  3. Government Sector
  4. Self-employed via business 
  5. Professional
  6. Retired
  7. Student
  8. Agriculturist
  9. Housewife
  10. Other

For Non-Individuals:

  • Type of company which includes the following options;
  1. Private Company
  2. Public Company

  5. Non-Government Organization NGO

  • Gross Annual Income in INR
  • Net-worth in INR
  • Do people of the same family have control and ownership of the business?
  • Whether the entity involved in any of the following services,

  7. Pawning

What to Remember when filling  Form 49A and Form 49AA?

  1. Always read the guidelines and rules first and make sure you stick to them to prevent hassles later.
  2. Fill the form using black ink in BLOCK letters to prevent lack of clarity.
  3. Make sure you fill the form in ENGLISH and fill out all the fields marked mandatory with an asterisk.
  4. Enter the names carefully, as they are without any salutations, abbreviations or titles unless specifically mentioned.
  5. Choose the right document type when you enclose your supporting documents as proof of identity, address and DoB.
  6. Always double-check the AO code provided on the form by going through the NSDL website.
  7. Affix recently taken, coloured passport-sized photographs with a white background in the space provided. Do not pin or staple the photographs, but stick them instead.
